This is different from the Bobcat APU's- those little 35W systems that were meant to compete with Intel Atom with nVidia Tegra. These, these make Intel's HD 3000 graphics look like Intel graphics of times past (think GMA 950/3150, and even further back- to when Intel Pentium 4 desktops occasionally used ATi X200 integrated graphics).


It's basically a 32nm Phenom II 925 with the equivalent of an ATi 5670 slapped on the die. 500M or so transistors just for the GPU. So let's do the math: Phenom II 925 = 95W. ATi 5670 = 60W. Total would be 155W. With this APU, 100W for the exact same performance, and it'll play most any older game perfectly (Left 4 Dead, Counterstrike, Team Fortress etc.).

Also I *believe* these can hybrid crossfire. I'll have to read AMD's official release, but if you matched it up with say a 6670, you'd have 5770 graphics performance with a cheapie 300W power supply included in any budget mITX case. It's a nice, efficient build. Would be perfect for Mac Mini's, Dell Zino's or whatever, etc. Personally it's not for me but I thought I'd drop in my $0.02 so people don't overlook these in favor of less well-rounded budget HTPC's such as a Sandy Bridge with integrated.

This price point puts it at an advantage in the PC sales market...people can actually play games on their PC's without an addon graphics card now. I hope this hits it big.

Your not really saving anything over an am3 board/dedicated 5670 and a processor honestly other than some power savings I suppose. If the prices comes down I can see this being a viable choice.

I mean when manufacturers phase out phenoms and starting using llano chips in systems. People who buy standard dells, HP's, etc. from stores and online will have a system capable of gaming without having to buy addon cards.

Very pointless since all the motherboards are all $99+. You can get some pretty reasonable boards in the $60 range for AM3+ and still have $40 which will almost buy you a 5570 (<$60) which is far superior to this. The CPU itself is nothing special and is for the most part the same old Athlon (with no overclocking). Unless you really need minimal 3D gaming with minimal power consumption, I don't know why anybody would want one. Anand also says these suck for HTPC use. [anandtech.com]

AMD is moving to a two Tier system (like Intel) with "performance" parts on the AM3+ socket and "mainstream and value" parts on FM1.
