Help, I have been invited to a 4th of July cookout

Before my wife passed away, whenever we were invited to a get-together my wife would make a dessert or some other dish to take with us. Since my wife's passing, friends would invite me to dinner and I would take a bottle of wine. I have been invited to a 4th of July cookout, this Monday at a friend's home, where there will be 30-40 other people. Is a bottle of wine still appropriate? A case of wine? Or should I take something else?

Alcohol is always welcome.

You can also bring some chips/salsa, pretzels, etc.

I'd bring a 12 pack of beer.

Really sorry to hear about your wife's passing. I say bring whatever you want yourself! If you were at a party and saw something that you liked tn I would bring that

Sorry about your wife. It depends. IF someone else is bringing the wine, maybe you bring something else like chips, Coke, etc....

Ask the hosts if there is anything in particular they need for the party. If they say nothing, then just bring a bottle of wine as a favor for the hosts.

Perfectly right. But be sure you have some suggestions when you ask "Can I bring anything? Chips and salsa? Fruit? Dessert? Beer?" and if the hostess still says nothing then a bottle of wine is great.

For a cookout, if you don't want to ask in advance, I'd bring either a case of beer or a cake or something like that.

Will there be fireworks at the party? You may want to add to the purchase fund. There are a bunch of that get together every year and while we all bring some food and our own drinks, we all put in on the firecrackers. That way we get some super awesome pyrotechnics!
