I doubt that all people want a webcam on their desktop monitors. Maybe if they include a piece of hardware and a mechanism to cover the webcam when it is not in use because webcams are easy to hack.

Also, businesses would not want the cameras on their monitors because of the extra cost, unless they want to record their workers pick their nasal cavities every so often.

Lastly, it's better to have a separate webcam because it will make it easier on consumers. People don't want to buy an awesome monitor and realize the camera is horrible or realize the camera is great but the monitor is horrible.




Oh and don't buy this webcam if you want to do quality Youtube videos. I would suggest using this camera for Skype or Oovoo.

Most people keep their webcam perched above their screen without covering it in any case so not sure how much different that would be but you do make very valid points

That's very true. I wish I could warn people not to leave their webcam on their monitors like that.

My friend demonstrated how easy it was to hack into a webcam. If the webcam is offline, it can be turned on remotely from a different location. Now, I make sure to face my webcam to a wall, unplug it, or cover it when I am not in a webcam session.
