Risk in using one family of funds.

Is it safe to invest all of your assets in one family of funds?

I'm a big fan of Vanguard but wonder if I should use 2 families (Vanguard and Fidelity) to slightly reduce the risk of fraud within the funds.

Both families you mention are pretty much rock solid - that said, if you have access to both, it certainly wouldn't hurt to diversify. I worry about computer failure or an accounting mistake causing my money to disappear. Then there's the matter of the custodian bank going under, so don't just pick different fund families, but make sure each uses a different bank. Vanguard uses CoreStates, Fidelity uses State Street.
