Sorry Selma, I have to thumb down on this one. Vertex 2 is notorious in the reliability department. I would rather drive two days than taking an airplane that falls from the sky one out of 4 flights.

The box that UPS delivered to me was undamaged, however when I openedd that box i discovered the retail box had been dropped twice before it even shipped. 2 seperate corners were smashed in indicating this and instead of getting another one to ship THEY SEND ME THE DROPPED ONE!"  failure rate seems high still, some customers bought theirs in june and they are bad as well |

I doubt there are 250 people on Newegg trying to bash a product they paid $250 for. Why pay that much money to bash on something? It's luck of draw with those Vertex 2 units.
I think OCZ gained a bad rep after releasing the VERTEX 2. |

I'm going to TC all over OCZ.
Between their faulty power supplies and SSDs, I will NEVER buy from OCZ again... you too would be wise to avoid them. |

Love my 60 GB vertex 2, got $25 rebate < 2 months. Good deal on this drive. Though hopefully if you order you don't get a bad one like some claim is commonplace. No way there is a 50% failure rate. They would stop selling it then...lol. My packaging arrived in good condition, but I can't speak for others.

I've had 2-Vertex 2's and 2-Agility 2's and have had no problems that OCZ support couldn't help me through. There was an issue with older Firmware that I had to flash one of the drives from another Windows PC, but it's better than a HD going bad and needing an RMA.

I have a 120 GB Vertex 2 that I have been using for about 10 months and it has been fine. That's not to say there hasn't been plenty of people that have had problems, I just haven't. There weren't many negative reviews when I bought mine. I probably would have stayed away too if I would have seen them but I have been very happy with mine personally.

Is OCZ the new Monster Cable?
This is a great price on a generally great drive. The "issues" are common to all early Sandforce drives, which are generally very reliable. OCZ is the biggest seller and thus have the most complaints. My Corsair Force 120 is rock solid and was initially thought to be less reliable than the Vertex 2. The failure to acknowledge the performance drop with the move to 25nm was a black eye, but now no one here seems to judge the drives by the simple calculation of performance versus cost anymore. OP's deal is a Kingston price for a Vertex 2, and that's how it should be judged. |
