Deal Details

I called in asking about the premiere with free Sunday ticket. He said they couldn't offer me that because it was for new customers. I ask if he had any other deals for customers that have been with them for 13 years My package is choice extra with free HD for 24mo. Here is what he gave me.....

$150 credit for a one-time payment of sunday ticket
12mo Showtime free 12x12.99=155.88
6mo Starz free 6x12.99=77.94
So total with tax got Sunday ticket and a $38 credit. I can deal with that

You will hear soon enough if it is anything like the other DTV threads. In a week people will be on this thread claiming they got the ticket free, a $500 instant credit, all new equipment with no contract extension, and all in a 2 minute phone call without asking for anything.

In fairness though, the other DTV thread did get me about $60/month off for the next year without a commitment, so this might be worth a shot.

I got in on the year free of Showtime and I've only been a customer since January.

I'm still on the last round of "freebies".

Free HD for 2 years
Free DVR service for 1 year
$20 credit for having both HBO and Stars for 12 months
Free SD Tivo box for 1 year (my bedroom tv isn't HD and my old Tivo box still kicks DTv's DVR butt).

Not really hard to get them to offer you stuff. Just tell them whatever Fios/Comcast/TW/Dish is offering at the time and tell them you are thinking about switching.

You might have to ask for retention but even that is pretty rare.

Then again, sometimes it depends on how long you've been with them. For me, almost 11 years of service with:

6 years with the Sunday ticket
10 years with Center Ice
some form of HBO/Showtime/Stars most of the time
at least 2 receivers and DVR service for the last 6 years.

Close. I didn't get any new equipment because I already have three HD receivers and didn't want whole-home DVR.

How does that net out to a $38 credit? ST is $334.95, minus your $150 credit. That means you paid them $184.95.

Are you saying you already pay for Showtime and Starz, so you're counting the fact they are giving those to you as a future credit? If so, wouldn't that be a $49 savings over the next 12 months?

Just trying to figure out exactly what they gave you because I plan to call soon myself. They've been on me forever to switch from one of their legacy packages, so I'm thinking I'll probably do it if they'll make me an offer like yours.

These things are extremely YMMV. Directv's customer software rates you as a customer based on what tier service you buy, how many PPV's you buy, how well you pay your bill, what credits you have previously gotten and currently have, and how long you've been a customer. I suspect the CSR can also +/- your account if you're nice or a jerk.

When you call, they get a list of available promos they can give you. They simply cant give you anything that isnt on their screen. Retentions has access to more deals.

I've called every year and gotten ~$120 off and free superfan. Superfan is no more, its included. But last year when lots of people were getting ST for $180 and less I called and called and called and couldnt get it. I went to retentions, couldnt get it. I finally actually canceled and got a call from the office of the president, who seemed to be able to do anything he wanted and gave me the deal, but he implied that people who said they were routinely getting it for half price or free or free with credits either also got through to his department (which wasnt easy) or were full of -----.

Customer since late 1994 when they had 50,000 subscribers, never missed a payment, usually have had higher tier services, always had the sunday ticket, although I havent bought a PPV ($5 is too much) and regularly call in for credits and promos.
