The much loved $25 beyond talk plan at Virgin Mobile will go up to $35/mo starting July 20. So for all of you on the fence, go out there, buy the Optimus V for $149 and get grandfathered into the $25/mo plan before July 20. I guess they're launching the new rates just before the new Motorola phone gets released.

Here is the full announcement: http://virginmobileusa.marketwire...c=vm_price

I have the V and love it. I guess I should go to Target today to pick another one up for my wife to lock in this awesome rate.

Most importantly, once you're grandfathered into the old plan, you're free to buy new Virgin phones in the future, including the Motorola Triumph, and still enjoy the $25/mo rate.

First Netflix prices going up, now this....OUCH.............

Virgin Mobile will be throttling data after 2.5GB

http://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/20...63892.html

Process to get Moto Triumph with the Beyond Talk $25 Plan:
1. Go to Radio Shack/Target/Walmart buy LG Rumor/Samsung Intercept/LG Optimus V
2. Activate $25 beyond plan
3. Buy Moto Triumph July 20th
4. Transfer $25 plan to new phone (easy to do on Virgin Mobile website)
5. Return the LG rumor, Samsung Intercept, or LG Optimus V to radio shack

Noted: Target has 90days return policy. However, there are some questions in regards to return an opened/activated phone so YMMV. RS may also charge restocking fee. I've gotten two phones with bestbuy and they have a solid 30days return policy. Also there is a 10% coupon for BB (http://m.bestbuy.com/mobile/coupons/HOME3.html). I used it at two different BB locations using a printout with no issues (coupon said limit 1 per customer). Also, you may want to take a picture of the screen with your phone, just in case.

Virgin mobile accepts returns on all phones as it is there 30 day risk free trial. If you have a friend on the fence they could even get one and use the service for 30 days and if they aren't satisfied they could return the phone and the air time.

FAQ

Q: Can I make VOIP calls on this plan?
A: Yes, you can purchase the Groove IP app ($3.99) which can be used with Google Voice to make voip calls. Quality is not guaranteed and will vary.

Q: Does the 3G speed good enough for GrooveIP (which requires about 85Kbps) ?
A: If anyone tested over 3G (not WiFi) can update the answer?
Look at post #606.
Using Speedtest.net speed depends on which server you use.
Overland Park,Kansas gives me speeds of 1.6Mb/0.7Mb,Ping 140ms.
New York, NY about the same, but Ping 125ms.
Secaucus, NJ about half of the above with much higher pings.

Q: Is it flat $25/mth or are there taxes?
A: You will pay your local sales tax when purchasing the top up card. OR you can buy from callingmart.com and pay $24.75 for the $25 topup and there is no sales tax

Q: Can I port my current phone number from current provider to VM?
A: Yes, you can. It is advisable to do this after a few days of using the VM service in case you find that the VM service is not all you expected. Once you are satisfied with the VM service, you can initiate the port of your number. If you are on a family plan, make sure your primary number is the last number you port.
Noted: Once your number is ported over, your original account (att, tmo, verizon, etc.) will be terminated automatically. However, if you have multiple lines on the same account, you will need to call the original account CSR to deal with those numbers (terminate, transfer from secondary number to primary, etc.)

Q: On Which phones can I activate the Beyond Talk plan?
A: You still can activate any of these VM phones: Aloha, Arc, BlackBerry 8530, Cyclops, Flare, Jax, Loft, Mantra, Marbl, Oystr, Rumor2, Rumor Touch, Slash, TNT, Shuttle, Switchback, Super Slice, Wild Card, X-tc, Optimus V, Triumph.

Q: What if I run out of 300 mins before the month is up?
A: You can purchase a lower denomination top card to use until your month cycle begins again OR Restart you month cycle by topping up using the $25 top up

Q: By when do I need to activate the BeyondTalk plan to be grandfathered in to the $25 or $40 price.
A: You need to active the service by July 19th, 2011 11:59pm

Q: Can I activate plan and port number in after July 20?
A: I called VM CS and they said that you can port your number into after July 20th and still be grandfathered in. But you have to activate VM before July 20th. VM CS can be unreliable sometimes, so you should double check for yourself.

Q: When exactly is the plan considered expired? is it immediately after the month is over and plan has not been topped-up or is there a grace period before the plan is expired? If there is a grace period, how long to they give you?
A: After the paid month, you have additional 60 days to top up before expiration occurs.

Q: Which store has the best return policy on a opened phone?
A: Target has 90 day return policy but unsure if the phone has to be unopened.

Please add t the FAQ as needed. Thanks.

Q: If I am a current Virgin Mobile customer on Beyond Talk, and I upgrade to a Triumph, which plan structure will be applicable?
A: If you become a Virgin Mobile customer before July 20, 2011, on any Beyond Talk handset, you are on the original price structure. Going forward, it doesn't matter what handset you choose; the original price structure will remain intact if you were a customer before July 20, 2010 as long as you keep paying for your monthly plan, and don't let your account expire.

Be aware that the unlimited data will be going away in October. You will get throttled after 2.5gb per month. I guess that's still "unlimited" but it will be slow.

Isn't Virgin pay as you go? Meaning there's nothing to hurry for. The prices will go up no matter what, right?

On the plus side, their unlimited plan is dropping from $60 to $55, and they're dropping the extra $10 per month for BB phones.

You're safe - you will be grandfathered to the old $25 plan.

You can actually lock in the $25/mo plan if you activate a new account before July 20. Therefore, there is a need to hurry if you're not already a Virgin USA customer nod

The main important question is..
1. Can you activate any phone?
2. Can you tether the data?

If both points are fulfilled, this would be 'SERO jr' Big Grin

1. You can only activate Virgin Mobile USA phones.
2. Yes, there is a way to enable mobile hotspot on the Optimus V: http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_...optimus-v/

As long as your service does not lapse you stay under the old plan of 25 bucks a month. I honestly am not suprised at this but as slow as data is on the LG I do not think I could 2.5gb a month if i tried. Honestly not being able to block tethering is probably what caused this. I would be curious what the throttle speed is and if it ratchets up as consumption increases. My guess is the new rate will kick in at the same time as the Triumph to get more moolah from people newly switching. Probably hurt the resell value on the Optimus though.

Are there cheaper Virgin Mobile Wireless Andriod phone or one that can browse the net without issues?
