Better processor, video graphics, +140GB hdd space, and smaller screen size compared to the toshiba on frontpage this week. A great all around deal if you don't mind the white color, capable of low-mid end gaming.
Sure is better than the toshiba for $450. But I'm not a student, is there a slick way to get in on this? Is the 6620M a discrete card or another typo like the toshiba one.
It is integrated in the CPU, but is dedicated graphics class. It is more powerful then the entry level/entry-low level cards. It is actually capable of gaming at fair settings on a laptops resolution.
1100 Total SSD's handled between two jobs. Plextor M3s, M5s, Intel 320s, and Samsung 470/830/840s are reliable (1 intel 8MB bug failure, one M5s failure). 3 M4 errors, 1 failure among ~75 of them. Sandforce controlled drives, 13 RMAs among ~200 units.
Nice price for brand new 32nm AMD tech, too bad they cripple this 15" laptop with a 1366x768 resolution while it contains a much more competent gpu that should be hanging with a 1600x900 or 1680x1050 resolution. Gateway has never been known for using quality screens though.
Llano is still new so I am sure many better deals with better displays are just over the horizon.
i am going to take a look at this gateway and the lenova that are on sale this week. this only has a 1.5 mhz CPU but the lenova has 2.5 or so. i am not sure which one will be better for my needs but the student discount is great! for once it might help me :/
I am no longer a student, but I have an alumni email address through my university (Purdue): XXX@alumni.purdue.edu. I wonder if that will work for .edu requirements. Check to see if your university offers alumni email addresses.
Edit: A student i.d. is required for the rebate, so the OP's .edu requirement is a little lacking.
