Your amp on the SR805 is better than 98% of the Home Audio receivers ever sold. ![]() Though when I upgraded from the Onkyo SR805 to the Onkyo NR1007, I couldn't tell any difference in sound. After a certain point - it just doesn't matter and these high end Onkyo's are well into the field where 5 or 10 watts + or - with all of them having practically 0% distortion levels and +/- 1db flat frequency response from basically 10 hz to 20Khz --- it all ends up being about the same! At that point you are just looking at your feature set. Remember it takes a doubling of power to go up 3dB of SPL. But 6dB is an actual doubling of SPL. So it actually takes 4x's the power to be twice as loud. Thus 5, 10, or even 35 watts is not really that big a deal on these receivers. Last edited by Archaea; 07-19-2011 at 07:09 PM.. |

I'm in the same boat as a lot of you guys - I'm debating whether the 809 is worth the extra $300 over the 609.
Here is a list of things the 809 has over the 609:
The main benefits IMHO are the amp pre-outs (in case you ever want to run an external amp), the Audyssey MultEQ XT, the upgraded video upscaling, and the advanced networking features. It also has 35W more power per channel which means you'll be able to listen at lower levels to achieve the same volume, and that will give you slightly cleaner sound (lower THD). I was all set on getting the cheaper NR609, but after putting together that list and reviewing the differences I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the NR809!

Grabbed this the other night (Sunday I believe) when the same deal was going on and come Monday it went back to 8 something... Was in a warehouse close to me (next state over) so I received it overnight, about to go hook it up now. Nice to see the deal live again - I think this was done in response to NewEgg having it on sale for 699 over the weekend and they sold out.
+1 for a great deal on an excellent receiver. I'm upgrading to this after just buying a TX-NR708 during the fall, which will soon be going up on the ebay. |

This is the most feature packed AVR that I've seen under $1000... Also, as far as I've seen, Onkyo is the only brand that has PC input (vga) on these receivers, which is very important to me.
This particular model doesn't just up-convert analog and non HD sources, it can also process them to make them look cleaner and improve visual quality. It also has ISF calibration, nice bonus. |

Yeah, I bought one. This receiver is good enough not to pass up at this price especially in CA.
