Menards Deal Thread - FAR, Rebate, and Sale Discussion Thread

I just wanted to say I think MrLateNite does an amazing job in this thread! I hope all of you who benefit from his posts are thoughtful enough to rep him in appreciation of his hard work.

The screen is the pet resistant one. I just happened to need one since my 90lb Canadian Special (mutt) went through ours last week.

$7.99 before rebate, so it makes it cheaper than any of the other 36X84 screens they have in stock.

Doesn't come with any extras, but I already have the tools since I've done this before and the screen is new enough that the other pieces can be reused.

No, seriously (just kidding with the above ), I simply grab the list of rebates from the web site, paste into Excel, then copy to notepad and manually group like things. Takes about 10 mins per posting -- and something I might do anwyay to see what are good deals. I miss a few weeks, but looks like others catch them, so thanks to everyone that contributes to this thread!

Menards Kitten & Bath Sale (August 26 - September 9)

New stuff at the registers this week.

Looks like they got an updated checkout system. No longer monochrome text on black background (DOS). Now it's a very complex mess of multi-colored text, rectangles and the like on a white background. Not super polished like a grocery store , but rather a User Interface nightmare of data on the screen now. (I worked retail for 7 years and now design computer software for a living so I can critique from both sides)

Also, the receipts are an equal mess too. They drastically shrunk the Menards logo/store info at the top, and made the rebate numbers on the rebate receipts smaller and in a tighter font that is hard to find the numbers. Also, now each item takes up THREE lines on the receipt, when it used to take just 2.

For some reason they now feel the need to print the name of the circular / sale ad that the item was discounted from, and now put the original price, discount amount as well as your final price all on each itme.

Think some programmer went wild with what they 'could' do vs. what they 'should' do.

Yet, they still haven't done the thing I've asked them to do before ... program it so that the list of applicable rebate numbers printed at the bottom of the main receipt in a row, as well as the cuttable full rebate receipts are printed in numeric order rather than a random order -- it would help finding all the rebates at the C/S counter that much easier.

Gosh...it takes sooooooooooooooooooooooooo long to find rebate receipts. If it's such a big deal then go online to Menards.com and put in the rebate receipt numbers yourself. You can even save some time and effort by not having to fill out all the receipts by hand or wasting valuable money putting a return address label on the receipt by typing in your info, and it automatically fills in all the other rebate receipts.

I'm still surprised that Menards has yet to do what I ask them to before...99% off everything in the store because dangit! They should know who I am. I guess I'll have to keep waiting.

If your computer programming skills are so great why don't you offer your services to them?

BTW, At the bottom of the receipts there's this line:
"THE FOLLOWING REBATE RECEIPTS WERE PRINTED FOR THIS TRANSACTION:
#### #### #### #### ####"

They aren't in order, but again, big friggin deal.

First, thank you, MrLateNite, for all the time you put in organizing rebates, and for the multitude of questions you answer quickly and graciously. I don't believe a Slickdeals forum is an appropriate place for the kind of language I would normally use to respond to the Texan.

As for the tool chest, it certainly LOOKED identical to the one I picked up last year; different brand name, but the same price and appearance. It's certainly served me well; what's your question?

I was just wondering if it was ok quality and would hold the basic tools in the drawers like a hammer or two. sockets and pliers and all your basic stuff.

Did yours come with a door covering up the bottom like it was shown in the ad? Mine has a picture on the box without the door so it is wide open, in the ad it said models vary by store and I was hoping for the covered portion but I am not sure if the modes really change and if it is worth me looking at other stores.
