Did I get ripped off?

I just bought a laptop from my roommate, but I'm wondering if I got ripped off. The computer is a Toshiba Satellite A45-S151(http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-Sat...B0001OP226) with 2.8 ghz pentium 4, 512 MB RAM, 60 gb hard drive, and a 15 in. screen. It's in good condition and has a new power cord/battery, but I paid out 300 bucks for this thing.

Did I get ripped off? I have a hard time believing that any laptop this old could be worth $300.

He probably didn't do it intentionally, many people don't realize how quickly the value of a PC or laptop diminishes. He might have paid over $1000 for it a few years ago. So, you should have paid $100 more and bought a new one. If you couldn't afford a new one, then maybe you did the best you could.

Dude, you got ripped. I doubt he did it intentionally, but, if I were you, I'd have a civilized conversation with him, and get a full refund.

You paid $300 for a 7 year old lap top that probably cant even stream YouTube vids properly.

For $200 more you could get a 17" Toshiba Satellite, 2.3 GHz Quad Core, 6GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Lithium ion Battery, Win7 Premium x64, AND a 1 year warranty. [staples.com]

If he/she is a reasonable roommate, maybe you should ask for some quid pro quo, if you both know that the deal was a little lopsided maybe you could ask your roomie to pick up a little extra on the utilities or rent this month?

Just don't let yourself be bitter about it, you'll be happier without the whole "you ripped me off" thing every time you see them.
