Thread Details

I just called and got this deal for the second year in a row. When I'd called last year the lady said to call back when it expired and they'd do it for me again.

Call 800-934-6489 and choose the options to disconnect/cancel service. I tried the options to activate new service or upgrade and they gave me nothing. The only thing they said they had was a bump from the 12 to 20Mb/s service at no additional cost for 3 months.

You may have to select option 3 at the beginning for 'more options' to get the disconnect service option, and you might sit on hold for a while after that, as they probably arent inclined to give prompt service to people who want to disconnect.

Got a really nice lady on the phone. I told her that I got a promo the year before for $15 off a month for my 12Mb/s service and that they'd told me to call again. She quickly said there was no problem with giving me the same discount for the 12 months again. I asked about deals on faster services, and she offered me 20Mb/s for $5 less a month than I was paying for 12. I took that deal, mostly because we often have more than one HD netflix stream going on in the house and the browser response time gets a little clunky when thats going on. Much better with the 20Mb/s.

$180 off over a year for a 5 minute phone call is pretty decent, as is $60 off with almost twice the speed.

Save the phone number...I couldnt get anything by calling some of the other numbers that were kicking around, or at 800-comcast.

I am exisiting customer paying $39.99 for economy internet only that gets 3mbs down. She said the best she could do at the ops # was $34.99 for 15mps if i signed for 2 years. She said remembered giving past callers the deal of blast for $30 @ 6months but this deal is no longer available for her to add to my account.

I have basic cable and 12Mb/s internet service and have been fooling around with Comcast for the past couple weeks to get a discount to no avail; however, I tried today and the csr said because I didn't have a "bundle" package (phone, internet and extended cable) there wasn't much she could do for me except offer me $15 off for the next 12 months!!! Slam dunk... This is exactly what I was looking for... TU!!!

Glad you all got in on it. Every penny helps these days. I hope none of you suffered from the apparently very confusing "Call this number and say this and get money off your bill" approach...laugh out loud

I live near Sac, right over the county line in El Dorado County. Prices are different for each Comcast service area (I know Roseville, Folsom and El Dorado Hills all have different comcast prices), but here are mine:

Comcast 12Mb/s HSI $46.95 because I carry the $9.80 basic analog cable, which reduces the price by $10 or $12.

-$15 for the promo, plus $10 extra for the bump to 20Mb/s.

If I bought HSI alone without the analog cable or speed bump, it'd be close to $60, minus the $15 off promo. So I'm slightly better off having the basic analog cable and getting a discount on the HSI thats more than the cost of the tv charge.

I think if DSL and/or U-verse in your area, comcast keeps the prices a little lower. I have neither.

How much are you paying total per month? As a new internet customer, I currently have Comcast performance internet (12mb) for $24.99/month for 12 months.
How do you like the 12 MB a month plan?
Is it fast enough to watch HD Netflix or ESPN 3?
What speed do you get on speedtest.net?

I was paying $70 / month for the ~20Mbps HSI standalone service. I called Comcast before finding this thread and all they could offer me was to bump down to 12Mbps for $60/month!

I called again after reading this thread and specifically requested $15/month off. I was told that that package required 3 lines of business with Comcast (i.e. phone, cable tv, and internet) and an agent who had provided the discount to a customer that did not have 3 lines of business was in error.

I asked about any other discounts and was offered a $19.99 HSI 12Mbps for 6 months + a $24 basic cable package. The total is still less than I was paying so I took it, but I see in the thread above some folks have ~$10 basic cable packages but my agent insisted this was the cheapest basic cable package available.

Anyone have any suggestions for further reducing my rate? Thanks!

Check your bill again. There have been several price increases over the years and I think the cheapest limited basic plan at Comcast is now over $17, so it is not cheaper to get tv plus internet than paying for internet by itself. There is no more "analog" basic cable. Everything is going to digital in Sacramento by the end of October 2011.
