Win 7 HTPC trouble waking up from sleep from Adesso remote
I have a peculiar problem with the WMC 7 HTPC. It is a AMD 5050e with ASUS M3A78-EM mobo running Windows 7 Home premium. Bought a Ceton (Thanks SD!) and have a 5450 Asus discrete video card. It runs fine for most part. The issue I have is with the sleep and wake-up function. I have 2 remotes: Lenovo Multimedia Remote and a 2/3 year old cheap Adesso ARC MCE remote. I keep the HTPC in Standard Windows Low power mode and it goes to sleep properly when I am not using it or watching anything (i.e WMC menu). If I am watching any live TV or video it remains active. Also when it goes to sleep by itself, it wakes up properly and records anything that I have set. Further it I click any of the remotes (Lenovo or Adesso) it also wakes up and works fine. Issue is when I use the Adesso remote's sleep button. When I click the sleep/shutdown button on the Adesso remote, it goes properly to sleep, but clicking the same button again does not wake back the PC from sleep. However when I click any button on the Lenovo at this point, it instantly wakes up and functions fine. The Lenovo is a RF while the Adesso is a IR. The weird part is that the Adesso IR receiver does not even flicker the typical red light which it should whenever it gets any signal from the Adesso remote. When in frustration I start clicking random buttons simultaneously on the Adesso in such a case trying to wake the PC from sleep, it sporadically works, the IR receiver flashes and the PC wakes up. Apart from this odd behavior everything works fine I checked the USB wake up on the Adesso (Adesso is not listed as a named device, since it works off default MS drivers) and it has the wake up PC enabled. I am quite baffled at this behavior. Anybody has any ideas what could be wrong? I do have the choice of getting a new remote, but was hoping if I can make work on what I have. TIA |

You are probably suffering from one of a few different problems. I've run into similar frustrations myself.
Your RF keyboard is waking up the PC b/c RF receiver is still receiving power during sleep mode and detects a keypress, which in turn wakes up the PC. Replace RF with BT and you have the same setup/issues as me The Adesso being able to power down/sleep the PC suggests that the Power button on the remote is at least mapped to the correct power down command within the IR receivers registry settings. (This is a good thing for now). If you want to verify that the remote is actually sending the MceRemote.Power IR code, you can download and install Event Ghost. Then once EG is running, just hit the power button and look at the logs when you wake the computer back up. Among the flurry of actions/events on the left panel, you should see something like MceRemote.Power. If you do not, then your remote is sending a different IR code when you hit a power button, which could lead to looking at ... If your remote is not sending MceRemote.Power IR code when you hit the power button, then something on your system is mapping whatever code that is being sent to the sleep/power down command. If this is the case, then that's probably the reason why the system doesn't wake up from sleep. Inside the registry settings, there are specific IR codes that are mapped to sleep/wake/power functions. Unless the incoming IR code matches the registry, nothing is going to happen. Now, if your remote is indeed sending the MceRemote.Power command and nothing is remapping/intercepting it then there's another option to look at. Your USB IR Receiver may not be receiving proper 5volts while the PC is in sleep mode. Or your BIOS may not be set to allow the PC to wake from S3/Standby via USB. Or your IR receiver may not be set to allow it to wake your PC (in device manager settings). Lots of things that can go wrong here, so for your sake I really hope it's not one of these issues. Basically, getting a new remote is probably not the solution I was able to momentarily fix my situation by ... reinstalling Win 7. Everything worked, PC went to and woke up from sleep when I hit the Power button on the remote. Then I did all of the windows updates that windows was yelling at me to do. And 3 hours later my remote stopped putting the PC to sleep, stopped opening up Media Center, stopping doing everything ... except for being able to wake the PC up from sleep mode when I hit the power button. I'm about to replace the PC altogether at this point ![]() Well, off my ranting ... I've got a few links at home that cover more details about MCE remotes and their settings. I'll post them when I get back. In the meantime, if you have any questions shoot me a PM or post and hopefully I can provide some info that would be helpful to you |
