I'm looking to upgrade to an SSD and have a question. Can I reuse the Windows 7 key that's preinstalled? Also, is there any particular order I need to reinstall the drivers after the base win 7 install??

Thanks...
Yes. You'll need an actual Win7 install disc, though. Most systems don't come with them. The image is easy enough to find, though.

The Win7 install disc has most, if not all, the Windows versions. When you put in the product key, it will automatically install the correct version (unlike XP).

You can even download the latest service pack and slipstream it into your disc image. You'll get rid of any system bloatware that initially came with your laptop, too.

I do have a Win7 install disk. What I don't have is the key that came with the system. I did buy this machine refurbished, so maybe that's why I don't have a key? Is there a way to pull it out of the installed system??

Thanks for the help.

There is a weird clicking sound that seems like it is coming from the right hinge at the bottom of the screen when I open and close my laptop. I am just hoping that it doesn't just give out. Anyone have any experience with this?
Quote from Ambitio View Post :
I've had the same problem. More specifically, nearly all of the hinge screw points broke inside the laptop, making the corners below the screen loose and letting the hinge roam free. This is the weakest point of the laptop's casing. I opened it up, went to home depot to buy some similar sized screws and nuts, and just super glued a bunch of them onto the casing in the same manner the original screws/holes were. This has held up quite well for me so far. Get very good quality glue/epoxy.
I'm just passing on information to either of you if your temporary fix completely breaks. You may have to spend atleast $60+ to get the part and repair it like new: (This was posted at the notebookreview AsusK53ta thread [notebookreview.com])

UPDATE: AMD Catalyst 13.1 (9.012.0 December 19) AMD Official WHQL is available [guru3d.com]>>details are here>>http://www.guru3d.com/files_detai...nload.html
(I haven't tested these yet and will stay with 12.11beta until furthur reports come in, but early reports show it to be equally as good as 12.11beta. There's also an early leaked 13.2 Beta, but too early to say anything about that.)

UPDATE 2: More driver betas...(I can't believe they're out so fast....)
13.2 Beta 3 >>http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=374305
13.2 Beta 4>>http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=374415

Update3: I updated WIKI with some notes, but no concrete feedback on how the latest 13.2Betas compare to earlier drivers. Generally games should perform the same or slightly better and the new betas are designed to be used for the new Crysis 3 game in a few weeks. But some older games may work slightly better with earlier drivers. (I have no first hand experience with latest betas since I'm still using 12.11beta11 and waiting to get Crysis 3 before I update my drivers again.)

Good improvement in 13.2 beta 5 on Homeworld 2 if u set it to high performance, the previous catalyst cause rip-effect in the game, but now its fine.. skyrim works fine like usual(a bit improvement than 12.11beta11 "2-5 fps improvement").
Improvement on Farcry3(last time there was a little lag, but now its smooth like a baby butt..still the same high-med setting our fellow forum suggested).
On Battlefield bad company 2 however....its still bad with high setting...theres a lot of micro stuttering when engaging enemy. but overall, 13.2 beta 5 has a bit improvement than 12.11 beta 11. havent encountered any problem lately, if there is a problem, ill post it here.

Thanks for the feedback & it looks promising! (I might try them later or just wait until Crysis3 or Aliens Colonial Marines is released in the next couple weeks...)
--Have you tried 13.2 Beta 4 for Battlefield bad company 2? The forums also mentioned another game Black Ops 2 not working on beta 5 while it was ok on beta 4 (there may be more games that play on one beta and not the other).

--Also Did you run into the HDMI audio not working mentioned in forums? http://forums.guru3d.com/showpost...stcount=94
(only a bit concerned about that since I like to connect to an HDTV to do a video call with audio to the TV; but I don't need to bitstream HD audio for movies to an AV system.)

i'm trully sorry, but i cant test all of the games you suggested as i dont have em yet *lol*. It seems i can only download the latest 13.2 beta catalyst, even if i tried going to the 13.2 beta 4 link (the one you provided), it still go to the 13.2 beta 5. so yeah, cant help you with that one too... (sorry..)
as for the HDMI audio, too poor to have a HDTV...im still a college student...heh..

P/s : I don't know if it just me or everyone else too, but everytime i go overclocking using k10stat then i tried shutting it down (while my k10stat still overclocking), it hangs at "shutting down your system" part. The only fix is to revert the clocking back to its default setting before shutting it down, is there another fix for this? i prefer the most lazy part XP

-Oh thats ok, I was just pointing out observations about games like BlackOps- That game was discussed at guru3d 13.2Beta5 driver forums. They found BlackOps to work better on beta4 vs beta5, and maybe your game(Battlefield bad company 2) will also act differently in beta 4.
-I fixed the links for beta 4 and beta 3 on the wiki in case you want to try them.

I never had problem with k10stat hanging shutdown. Make sure that it's not another background program causing it. My only background running programs are MS operating system sidebar, K10stat, wireless console 3, and malwarebytes. The fewer programs running the better. Use "msconfigure" under run programs and see.

oh, thanks for pointing my problem about k10stat, ill try looking into it...so far nothing yet...maybe i undervolt it too much? is 2.5ghz with 1.15 V good? with every 100mhz i just put .025 V...

i just discovered that if i change the name of my call of duty:blackops exe into "iw5sp.exe" the graphic suddenly went better and smoother i dont know if this is only me or everyone but im just pointing that out. If its blackops 2...maybe the same result? i dont know..i dont have it yet...but try it!
Oh, i just installed Dead Space 3 just now. the graphic in this game is just superb and this laptop can handle it just fine with all on high setting(overclocked with k10stat to 2.5ghz). no lag or what so ever found throughout the game(trust me, i finished this game, yep. in 2 days). Maybe next week i'll try assassin creed 3 if i have time and money(this one is the hard part)..

P/S: I noticed there's a new application profile setting UI in this catalyst version, pretty nice if u tell me, but too bad i deleted my prototype 2... damn...

Edit : it seems i have finally found the problem of my hanging when im using K10stat. its the Voltage and Mhz of the p6,p5,p4 and p3(or maybe just P6, im too tired already to test it, or just had enough of having hanging when im testing... XP). it has to be the default stock(which means i cant edit those or i will hang when im changing to battery from A/C mode or vice versa and shutdown...

Great to know nothing's seriously wrong with your laptopCool & Thanks for the game feedback. I never got Dead Space3, but I have AC3 & never installed it since I'm back logged with 20 other games Stick Out TongueEmbarrassment. ..I recently borrowed Aliens and it's ok for fans of Aliens, but maybe not worth keeping it installed compared to other PC games. Next game for me will probably be Crysis 3.

I'm no expert with K10stat, since I only overclock it very conservatively. (For everyday purpose I only oc to B0 2000GHZ 1.0125V,P0 1700 0.9250, P1 1500 0.8375).
But for games I only go as high as B0 2400 1.25V, P0 2000 0.9875V, P1 1800 0.9375V, P2 1600). I have another game setting that's slightly better but B0 is only 2267GHZ 1.1375V,P0 2000 1.0V, P1 1800 0.9375V, P2 1600 0.90V, P3 1300 0.85V. I have one more extreme game setting I rarely use due to much higher temps around 60-75C: B0 2533GHZ 1.25v, P0 2300 1.15V, P1 2000 0.9875v, P2 1900 0.9625.)
Note: none of my settings were stress tested but I've never had a BSOD so I assume everything is fine.

Update: Another Graphic driver 13.2 beta 6 was just released..and wiki updated.

I too have an AMD A6-3400M (in a Gateway NV55S15U) which I have OverClocked and UnderVolted. I too have the same problems regarding hanging at ShutDown. I tried returning the PO6 - PO3 states back to stock "OverDrive" (1.5 GHz - 2.4 GHz), voltages as well,as you suggested and it still hangs. It shuts down just fine when reset to normal, factory "OverDrive" settings BO - PO. Actually it shuts down just fine at normal voltages, even though OverClocked. Otherwise this machine is an absolute champ. I scored CPUMark: 3180 and PassMark: 1165 without topping 60C. Not too shabby for a laptop. It's stable, quiet and cool @ 2.3 GHz (1.0875v) - 2.9 GHz (1.2500v). Except for the ShutDown issue everything is beautiful. It actually runs at the same temperatures as stock (due to the UnderVolt). Any suggested fixes. I need to remind myself to return clock speeds/voltages to normal prior to ShutDown with a Sticky Note on my DeskTop! I'd rather have it totally dialed in. Thank you for any help.

ahh i see, but your voltage seems a bit low for me @2.3 Ghz... mine sets at 1.1V for that clock...i don't know your clock is stable or not... but here's my Safe for shutdown clocking setting
B0 2.6 Ghz - 1.1750V
P0 2.3 Ghz - 1.1000V
P1 1.4 Ghz - 1.0000V
P2-P6 - Default setting
And i set it to "Auto", not sticking the clock. With Clock Control disabled and Boost "ticked".
so far i have not experience any hanging with shutdown and changing power setting . I hope this helps..

P/S : yeah, i need to do that setting to default clock before i found this solution too.. pretty suck if i forgot to set it to default when it is shutting down(happens a lot... XD)

PP/S : i'll try updating my CCC now...will give any feedback if there are any major changes... wave Big Grin

Edit : I just installed AC3 and it seems i have better performance if i change the name of the .exe to iw5sp in high performance setting. im using CCC beta 6 btw.

Thank you for your prompt response. I tried your settings and... no good. I still hung at shutdown. Any other suggestions. I also increased my P-State to your recommendation. Anyone with an AMD A6-3400M should check out the following link:
http://keeppcquiet.blogspot.com/s...l/A6-3400M. My question is how did he benchmark such a high number, over 6500 CPUMark? Really? How?

Thank you again, and keep the suggestions coming. I LOVE this APU! I only had $400.00 to spend on a laptop, and I totally got my money's worth. I would recommend this, w/o hesitation, to anyone. Truly remarkable performance for the price.
