Too many daily front page deals
Before I get stuff thrown at me, let me explain.Few years ago, front page deals were all super deals. Now seems like there is at least like 20-30 front page deals every day, instead of like 4 or 5 really good ones like before. Can there really be that many super deals? Or do we in our haste we just vote stuff up and it ends up on the front page by some kind of default. When there are so many front page deals, like 20 or more it starts to seem like just advertising noise instead of all the really great deals. And the really good deals just get lost in the clutter. Maybe there should be more stringent requirements for stuff to make it to the front page or something. Maybe it's just me, but it's starting to look really cluttered and I can't seem to understand how there are so many incredible deals daily. It simply should not be that way IMO. Comments? |

A hot deals only button? But some good deals don't get noticed by mods.

I agree that there are too many front page deals, but also that there are too many highly-rated thumbs up deals than there were 2-3 years ago? Are people rating each others' posts highly to reciprocate in getting their reputation higher, or is some other mechanism at work?

I created a custom RSS feed that only lists deals with 50+ votes.
You can alter that number in the url to get more or less deals: http://slickdeals.net/newsearch.p...e |

I came to this section just to make this thread.
There is so much crap on the front page, the worst offender: a Galaxy Tab 10.1 (or whatever) for $400. One of the worst I've seen in the past is a Macbook Pro discounted by $100 or something, making it still like $1400. |

i was going to say the same thing. there're too many front page deals nowadays (and too much clutter)
looking at today's front page, i found some not so great deals (IMO) 1. $2 amazon app store credit. ($2 savings is worth a front page ?) 2. $250 Cashback with New Chase Freedom Credit Card Approval After You Spend $500 in 3 Months. (i think this is not the first time this offer makes the front page of SD..a good bunch of credit cards gives you some sort of bonus points/cash when you sign up. IMO it's not worthy of a front page) 3. Target: 20 Free 4×6 Photo Prints w/CPN. (you get free prints when you sign up with most of the online photo stores. i know you can use this in store but just saying...) 4. Crutchfield has Canon SD4500 IS 10MP 10x Digital Camera w/ 1080p Video for $149 after coupon (it was $99 a couple of weeks back at Costco and i think it didn't make front page then. now its $50 expensive and it makes front page). |
