Is there a Android app with all features of TI-84 Plus (SE) Graphic calculator?
Is there an Android app that has all the features of the Texas Instrument TI-84 Plus (Silver Edition) Graphic calculator? My thinking was that I could maybe get the Nook Color and use such an app instead of spending $100+ just for the calculator. |

There are also some emulators out there that load in the firmware of a specific TI series. I gave it a shot at one point, but found the result to be not so amazing. I think there are a couple of graphing calculators in the market that are decent, not sure if it will give all the features of a TI. Stats and some solvers are not there.
The andie graph one looks promising, if you can find a ROM for your calculator. Last edited by Pedantyc; 08-10-2011 at 01:12 PM.. |

The best time to buy them is at the end of semesters when you can pick up used calculators for a discount on ebay, craigslist and facebook. Last edited by LiquidRetro; 08-11-2011 at 08:20 AM.. Vague questions receive vague answers . . . . . .

Just to let you know, I wasn't allowed ti-89 for any of my classes and the ti-85 was barely accepted for the others. Standard calculators were the only thing allowed for exams at my grad school. then again, i studied comp science, so its all dependent on the curriculum.

My school only allows the ti-84, nothing else. No phones or anything. They do this to stop students from cheating because they can wipe the memory off the ti-84 (to stop students from writing formulas and such on it). However I think that is a stupid idea. The school should just buy a class set and when we are home just download a ti-84 calculator app on the computer (they have one, texas instruments made one for teachers.)

My old TI-83+ Silver served me well from 6-11th grade (Calc 3 required TI-89 senior year). The TI-84+ Silver has since replaced the TI-83 as the standard for graphing calculators. I have never heard of a teacher who wouldn't let his/her students use a TI-83 or TI-84 (they're basically the same, one's just an older model).
Imo, the OP should go ahead and buy the TI-84+ Silver. Chances are his son's teachers through Calc 1 won't allow anything more advanced. Once his son enters Calc 2 (AP Calc BC in high school) his teachers might recommend upgrading to the TI-89. Once he hits Calc 3 the TI-89 will become a necessity. If $ is tight, you could just resell the old TI-84 since it will really hold its value. Wealth, fame, power.
