***Update***
SD'ers are reporting that they've been able to call in and negotiate deals and cancel their contracts already.

Here we go again guys!! Sprint had stated that they are increasing their administrative fee to $1.50/line. This is considered a change in the terms of service and will allow you 30 days from the date it's put into effect to cancel your contract without penalty.

This notice should be on your latest bill...

When You Don't Have To Pay An Early Termination Fee
You aren't responsible for paying an Early Termination Fee when terminating Services: (a) provided on a month-to-month basis; (b) consistent with our published trial period return policy; or (c) in response to a materially adverse change we make to the Agreement as described directly below.

Our Right To Change The Agreement & Your Related Rights
We may change any part of the Agreement at any time, including, but not limited to, rates, charges, how we calculate charges, or your terms of Service. We will provide you notice of material changes—and may provide you notice of non-material changes—in a manner consistent with this Agreement (see "Providing Notice To Each Other Under The Agreement" section). If a change we make to the Agreement is material and has a material adverse effect on Services under your Term Commitment, you may terminate each line of Service materially affected without incurring an Early Termination Fee only if you: (a) call us within 30 days after the effective date of the change; and (b) specifically advise us that you wish to cancel Services because of a material change to the Agreement that we have made. If you do not cancel Service within 30 days of the change, an Early Termination Fee will apply if you terminate Services before the end of any applicable Term Commitment.
There have been times where people have called in to cancel and have been given the run around from uninformed Sprint reps. Ask to speak to someone in retentions....RETENTIONS ARE THE ONES WHO MAKE IT HAPPEN!!! After all it's their job to keep you.

For the Slickdealers who don't really want to cancel but call in and negotiate a deal not to cancel, please post up what perks/freebies you got

For those of you who are considering doing the port out/ port in method you can port your number to Google Voice for free since Sprint and GV are partnered up (Thanks nkdumb24)

I left them only because of dropped calls, constantly! I used to love them, was with them since 1998, even though they screwed up & it shows that I've been with them since 2008. :/

I'm with AT&T & they're actually cheaper too. I dont have any smartphones on my plan though. So I'm glad I fought this.

They did say they were going to mail me the forms to settle & for me to fax it over, I'll fax it over but will mail it certified as well. Don't want them pulling anything on me. Smilie

I cancelled my account a short while back. Glad to be rid of them. I might go back at some point, but it won't be until after they fire that dipshit CEO and the rest of his management staff.

I contacted Sprint in September to get out of contract because of the admin fee increase. The rep terminated my contract because I told her that I planned to port out, but she said that my account would be reviewed in a couple of months and the contract restored if I hadn't left. I bought a phone from Wirefly in July, so had to wait to terminate until now to avoid the Wirefly fee. The Sprint website says that my contract was fulfilled in September. I took a screen shot today. Should I go ahead and port out to Verizon/Google Voice, or would I be safer calling Sprint to confirm that I can get out. I wouldn't want to unnecessarily stir the pot if I can safely get out. Thanks.

Port out and save the screen shot. DO NOT CALL.

I wanted to tell everyone my experience.

My wife is on a single line, and renewed in September.

I got the nicest girl in retentions which I think makes my experience quite biased. The few times I called before were terrible experiences with ladies with terrible attitudes who didn't care that I had been with Sprint for 11 years and I wanted a better contract (paying $150/mo for two lines). So I cancelled and my wife renewed.

So back to the story, I calmly told them about a change to the contract and she transferred me to the nice girl in retentions. I talked to her and explained to her that this represented a change and I will need the ETF waived and I would like the contract to be fulfilled. She tried to explain it wouldn't affect me but I insisted this is a change. She accepted this and said OK, I will cancel your account at the end of your billing cycle (Feb 3). So I will have to port the line before that date.

Summary: Called on 1/24/2012--Got out of the contract, ETF waived, and we can keep the phone. Thanks SD!

thanks for the update and sharing your experience

to others who did this a few months ago, if u can update what happened, it would help others who are trying to this now (like me)

specifically, if were told to cancel and get the EFT charged on last bill and have to call to get it credited back

how did that go

thanks

Well the sprint employee said that she changed the ETF and made it $0. There was no talk about me having to call back in and get the amount credited. I asked her about it and she said no she can just make it $0. I didn't bring anything up about returning the phone--and she didn't say I needed to send it back in either. I will be monitoring my email and snail mail to look for this requirement though.

In my situation I wanted to leave sprint, so I didn't try to do what many others did in this thread (get sprint to credit their account or give discounts) so that may have affected the outcome. It also helped that this girl was very sweet and helpful, not like the reps that I have been on the phone with in the past.

Mr. No Talent, I think you got very lucky. I, too, at first got sweet reps but was a no go.

Well I have been with at&t since October, still loving them. Love the fact that I have many phones to choose from.

Yesterday I received 3 missed calls from Sprint. When I called them back they had no idea why they called me. :| Today again, had 3 missed calls. I'm at work and wasn't able to answer.

They "is" crazy!!!!!
