It is incredible that this thread is still running!
We have two of the HP Touchpads, they work fine with WebOS and a few mods installed via PreWare.
We use them for quick web surfing, and the Kindle app, plus Skype (which seems to work just fine).

After all this time, I am guessing that even non-techies have switched over to Android on the Touchpad and are happy with the results. In other words, it might be a lot less experimental than it was last year.
Would we still be able to run Kindle and Skype?
I am hoping that someone who has gone down this WebOS -->> Android path could provide a pointer to a very good step-by-step instruction guide that even a non-technical person could follow. It might be a fun winter project, and a way to start learning about Android.
Thank you!

You are not alone. We also have two undoctored Touchpads. Other than not being able to watch netflix they do everything we need to check emails and web browse. I use the Kindle app and the alarm but that is about it. We downloaded movies and the Touchpads were great while traveling.

I also have a Touchpad that is still running WebOS. I did put some preware on it when we first got it, but never upgraded anything. We really only use it to get on the Internet, but use it on a daily basis. Wish I could get up the nerve to install Android, but I am afraid it will fail....and we use it daily....so I feel like I do not want to mess with it. Also....I am not tech-savvy.....so who knows what would happen.

Spend some time and learn about rooting and you might not be afraid. We all started somewhere. Got this link from XDA:
