We wanted to provide an update on the current status of the HP Touchpad situation. As you may be aware, or have seen on news reports, HP has recently supplied Touchpad stock to Best Buy (tm) to use in a "buy an HP computer and you can purchase a Touchpad at the fire sale price" promotion. Consequently, HP has decided to not provide us with any additional stock that was being held and promised, for our customers who have been waiting.

For this reason, we will be forced to cancel the remaining unfulfilled orders. We truly apologize for this unfortunate set of circumstances and want to thank you for your patience and understanding these past weeks. HP's decision puts us all at a disadvantage.

We hate to disappoint customers and not being able to fill the remaining orders disappoints us as well. If circumstances should change and stock were to become available, we will immediately contact customers to see if they would be interested in having their order reinstated.

In addition, we have placed a $15 CostCentral.com credit on your account towards a future purchase, which is available now and has no expiration date because of this inconvenience. It will appear automatically when logged into your account and you add an item valued at $15 or more to your cart.

For those of you who paid through Google Check out and were able to see the transaction on their Credit card, but has now disappeared, please don't panic. I can explain the possible reason:

Generally no merchant will charge you unless the merchandise is shipped, so what you were seeing was a pending transaction or in other words an Authorization from the merchant. These authorization only stay on the account for a period of 4-5 days and drop off. The idea is - merchandise should be shipped by then and the actual true transaction will replace the authorization. So, don't panic as long as you can see the order in google checkout and the merchants website. or an order cancellation email comes out!


Some speculative math
As per this wiki at 1:15EST PM 8/24/11
In the wiki there were a total of 78 orders, 75.64% of 16GB and 24.36% of 32GB
The average 16GB order was 1.4576 units
The average 32GB order was 1.3684 units
If from 5:46 PM to 10:06PM EST that Sunday, a total of 9300 orders were placed
Out of 9,300 orders 7035 were for 16GB. That is 10,254 16GB units sold
Out of 9,300 orders 2265 were fore 32GB. That is 3,099 32GB units sold
Conclusion: they probably oversold 16GB if they only had 7k units but undersold 32GB if they had 10k units.
