How to buy a Gaming Comp Monitor?

You're new around here, aren't you?

I was searching on gaming monitors and saw a couple of mentions about the 2407 (my current monitor) and wondered where it stood compared nowadays.



There are times against another opponent when I think "holy sh!t how did he get he get that shot off? Acknowledging the denial-factor that a 15 year old punk may have quicker reflexes that myself (and disregarding the hack factor), I have to wonder if system response plays a significant role. "Input lag" is a new term to me.



... but don't TN panels offer the best response rate? I haven't seen an IPS monitor, but understand they may be indistinguishable from other monitors unless viewed side-by-side. Are VA panels used for gaming?

Do you have a suggestion for a 24" monitor that is a significant upgrade over my Dell 2407? ... or ... do I stick with one of those monitors I mentioned earlier and use it specifically for gaming?

Again, getting headshot/pwned by people online has less to do with monitor lag than CPU cap, internet lag, ping, server lag, etc.

Anyways, if you really want to "upgrade" your monitor, go bigger is the only "upgrade"

27" at 2550 X 1440 resolution. You can get the HP/Dell ones, or save a little $$ get an A- LG Panel made by the korean companies

+1 for an IPS or MVA/PVA panel. Stay away from TN panels if you can. From my experience, the benefits dont come close to outweighing the limitations.

Grrr ... then looks like I'm just going to have to keep the "NOOB" tag on my head by kids I'm old enough to be the father of.



Y'know what, that may not be such a crazy idea. I've got a pair of 24" at home and I regularly turn off the 2nd when playing games (brightness/distraction factor). I could free up some desk space as well.



Thanks - looks like I'm in the market for another good monitor. I was really happy with this Dell 2407 for a number of years so I'm not too opposed to getting another high-quality one that will out last my next desktop or two.

i myself am looking towards 27" monitors for more resolution.

Its either the Korean A- Panels for $300~400, or spend a bit for the A+ Dell Ultrasharp/HP panel for $700ish.
