Backup WIndows 7 and Mac to the same external hard drive ?
can i do that ?i formatted the HD in NTFS and successfully backed up the windows 7 but mac's time machine won't let me backup. from some searching i found that NTFS on a mac is not supported (not writable)..so which format should i choose to backup both win7 and mac OS/files ? and does it support tranfer of files larger than 4GB ? because i had an issue some time back when i tried to transfer a file > 4GB and i think it was a FAT32 format. thanks in advance. |

You could repartition the drive so that Time Machine can have exclusive use of one part of the drive and the other partition can be formatted NTFS. You'll need to have a version of Windows that supports GUID Partition Table formatted disks and partition the drive using GPT.
I haven't tested this, so I couldn't tell you if it actually works or not. Steve Gibson on password policies [grc.com]: I mean, I don't get this change it every eight weeks. ... It's not as if passwords are traveling by camel after they've been stolen, going to the bad guys, and so there's, like, some weird eight-week window, like, oh, we're going to change your password so that the stale password no longer works. ... And all this does is make IT people despised because users, who are not dumb, they think, why am I - why do I have to do this? What problem is this solving?

you can install ntfs-3g on your mac so you can read and write to ntfs drives.

or you can get the open source ntfs-3g here [sourceforge.net] I knew there was a free way to do this as I have had to do it before. |
