It really sucks having rebate prepaid cards......Track the balance...and always comes into question when you have balance left and at the last moment at the grocery store your payment declines...because you forget to update each and every time you use.....It's really pain to track them all.....If you use prepaid cards at Gas station you will loose normally 3-5% cashback usually getting from your credit cards......I don't buy many items from amazon or paypal...so, I can't use over there...Somebody needs to come with solution to cash out...Otherwise prepaid card issuing bank will make money...and you are loosing money at certain stage if you fail to track and use all at once and paying for service charge after certain months.....

use them to buy all the free after rebate stuff at staples this week & choose to have them end you a check.
You can get further with a kind word and a gun than you can with just a kind word.
have: at least 6 inserts every week, willing to trade away any & all pet food Q's. If you've got something I need/want, ask and I may have something you need. |

Is there any way to get around the $1 pre-authorization charge Amazon hits the card with when trying to purchase an Amazon Gift Card? I tried using a Staples rebate VISA Debit card with a balance of $59.99 to purchase an Amazon Gift Card in the amount of $59.99 and it didn't work because Amazon did the $1 pre-authorization. Now with the pre-authorization still on there I had to purchase a gift card in the amount of $57.99 to get it to go through.

prepaid debit card
I use mine at one of two places. I pay any doctor bills one card at a time. If I have a car repair, I use them there or when I get my oil changed. It works for them and it works for me. Just some suggestions. Since I only get 1% back on my credit card for either of those purchases, it doesn't have my cash back credit card so much. I have actually used them to pay a hotel bill if I don't have that chain's credit card.

In the past I've always used them to purchase gas by going inside like people mentioned above. But I have a couple ideas that I wonder if anyone's tried:
1. I would like to give a year of Netflix as a gift, without the recipient needing to use a credit card and without leaving mine tied to the account. Could I use a rebate card for this? Would the Netflix account then automatically expire when the balance is insufficient to renew? 2. I know some of the gas stations only authorize for $1 by checking my credit card online. So can I use a rebate card at the pump as long as I'm careful not to go over? (I'd sacrifice a few cents so I don't have to wait in line inside.) Or even better, would the pump know where to stop automatically? EDIT: PS, if anyone with any clout at Netflix ends up reading this, here is the only reason I haven't purchased several Netflix accounts as gifts:

I have never tracked a card balance nor have I ever left a balance on the card for the bank. I have always done this at the grocery. |

I love those cards since I buy from Amazon *a lot*.
I just buy myself an Amazon gift card with them, throw the debit card away, then apply the gift card to my account. It all started when I got a $27 debit card. I had no idea how I was going to spend $27 on the nose. That's when I got that idea since you can buy an Amazon GC in any amount. Works like a charm. |

I always spend all the money for a gift card at a local grocery store that I visit every week. I just use the self check out and choose the gift card that I can put in any value. Grocery is one of my regular major expenses. Make sure you use up your rebate card before there is service charge (usually after 6 months). The gift card at my grocery store has no charge and no expiration, but I always spend all the money on it very soon anyway.
