If you still would like to format, then you would need to put your Windows XP cd in, boot from the cd by either changing the boot order, or pressing the boot menu key (usually an F key). From there you will see a blue screen, and it will allow you to delete the partition and reinstall Windows XP.
I would still strongly recommend trying to see if it's compatible in Windows 7 first. Good luck.

I agree it would be very silly to go back to a 10 year old (and less secure) operating system to play a game. If all of the above solutions do not work try building a Windows XP virtual machine to play it in.
No offense OP, but since you are asking how to do this...I'm thinking you are going to be SOL when you try to put xp on this machine...as you will not have all the drivers, etc that xp needs to properly run, much less run you game...
So try the above suggestions instead!
