UPDATE 2/25/2012 - Got another flier(cost me $15-and i only mentioned to few people so far(read update 2/21 below) for the same offer with a new Expiration date(3/18/2012), whats better is this offer has a different phone number - so try the new number if got shot down on the number from 1st flier. Both fliers are current as of today and attached on the bottom.

UPDATE 2/21/2012 - Reading through the replies - It seems that this thread has helped a lot of SD'ers to receive this(or a similarly slick) offer by either just mentioning the existence of the flier or more commonly faxing/emailing the copy of it to a Comcast rep that asks for it to verify that such a slick offer actually exists. That fact as well as the fact that my neighbors seemingly keep receiving the new versions of this flier on the regular basis(although undetermined interval) gave me an idea. I can try to offer a reward to my entire neighborhood (during a next city hall meet, email list that i can get from local DJ, or just stapling a reward note on a several streets/stores close to my house) in the sum of $15 for each new flier they bring to me - only for the offer i don't already have a flier for (usually means a new/later expiration date and some new/different internal Comcast numbers/codes on it- rest of this offer seems to stay the same(well graphics change as well sometimes)) and only an original flier in the original envelope (to eliminate Photoshoping bounty huntersSmilie. This way i can keep posting new/not yet expired (faxing/emailing expired fliers to Comcast reps will give them a good reason to deny it on the grounds of "that offer is no more") fliers here for my fellow SD'ers. Also if you get a similar flier/offer yourself (or any of your neighbors/friends/relatives do) - post it in this thread and PM me so i can put it into the first/this post(sorry not offering reward for that - but helping fellow SD'ers should be enough of a reward). What do you guys think of this plan? If i get enough reps indicating you think its a good idea - i will offer that reward to keep fliers coming!

UPDATE 2/15/2012 - New Fliers are attached on the bottom (my neighbour got the offer in mail and saved the filer for me) new Expiration is 3/4/2012
UPDATE 2 - Ran some bandwidth tests on this plan - results below

My buddy somehow got the flier for that elusive internet offer that everyone was talking about but i was unable to find anywhere else. Finally got the flier from him and scanned it(sorry about the quality i tried to make it better but my scanner is pretty old and about 5 mins past its expiration date). So far him, his GF, her brother+ his GF and my buds GF's brother's GF's sister(lol-i think i got that right) have successfully signed up by calling the number on the flier(apparently if you just call comcast - they dont know anything about this deal at all). All are in Mass except for the last one- she lives in NH. Out of all only my bud had it installed already-rest are waiting for scheduled appointments(tech to come to house)-but i dont think there will be any problem at this point.

Deal is:
$19.99 a month for 12 months(1 year) and $34.99 for months 13-24(2nd year). Only 1 year agreement(contract) is required so you can cancel right after your bill goes from $20 to $35 in month 13. Best part is - no additional service needs to be purchased(so dont need to sign up for TV or Phone). It is for new customers only(which i think means you didn't have any comcast service for at least last 3 month-not sure on this one though).

Bandwidth Tests on this plan(all ran on 2/15/2012):
Gateway = modem + router in one - (yes i know just modem is less headache but i got real good deal on it and honestly so far it worked perfect as u can see below(same results 24/7 not just offpeak/night).

I just bought new gateway(upgraded from 2 yo SBG900(Docsis2.0(1Down/1UP))) -
Motorola SBG6580 (Docsis3.0 (8channels(4 used ATM) DOWN // 4(1 used ATM) UP) []
FirmWare - SBG6580- (Old FW(newest is (FW can only be updated by Comcast on gateways and cable modems(thats the reason some people recommend against getting gateways and sticking with 2 separate boxes(cable modem and wire(ed/less) router)- at least FW on the router can be updated by customer then)

All tests on this gateway with this exact plan(Performance(15/3)) ran 2/15/2012: - Boston Hosted by Comcast - NY Hosted by TowerStream - PA Hosted by HostFTW

SPeakEasy - NY - Last Result:
Download Speed: 25183 kbps (3147.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 3692 kbps (461.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

SpeakEasy - Washington, DC
Download Speed: 25164 kbps (3145.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 3661 kbps (457.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

CNET - 24945 kbps

So far its confirmed to work in MA,NH,CA,TX,UT,WA,WV,NJ,PA,MD,CT,IL but might work for other states. Report here about your success/failure.

Think I will have a hard time canceling and signing up under my wife's info? Even if I own my own modem? I can see them telling me they can't add the modem to my new account because it's stuck on my old one.. or something asinine like that.
I had no problem canceling and then a week later signing up under my wife's name. And I've owned my modem for over 10 years now.

Any reason why you gave it a week?

Maybe calling over the phone was key. That way, you are talking to a human and they can do whatever magic they need to get their systems to talk to each other. I would recommend calling on a weekday during normal business hours so you hopefully get them when their systems are up.

My experience was not smooth, and I think it was because I used the online sign up, over the weekend, too. But maybe it could also have been that I did not wait enough time after cancelling. Initially, I tried to sign up online as the new customer before the end of the month was up, but the site said the address was already in use. So I called and confirmed the last day of service, and that my account would be cancelled, right? Right, they said. I then waited for that cancellation day to pass, and sure enough, the next day after that, I tried again, and the online form did not have any error anymore and let me sign up the new customer at the address. So I thought everything was good. The modem was still working too.

Well, it turned out my old account was cancelled for billing purposes, but apparently not for actual service (different department, lag time). Meanwhile, the sign up process for the new customer went through online, but it said it would need to be confirmed (entered manually into another system, as I was told later) and I would get another confirmation email, which never came. So I ended up calling the phone number listed in the first email, that said call this number if you don't get the confirmation email in a few days. The welcome recording says it is some support company (forget the name right now) on behalf of xfinity. Then talked to a tech sounding guy (got my hopes up at first), but he was actually quite rude. He said that he could not find my new customer information at all and that the online system automatically deleted it. He was extremely adamant about that. He tried hard to get me to re-sign up over the phone, and I initially said yes, but then changed my mind because it just felt funny to be giving out the same personal info again, and just the principle of the matter - how could they not have any record at all? Well, I was right. I called back later, but from the main Comcast phone number, got someone who was more courteous. She was able to find my new customer info after all, the same info that the other guy said the system automatically deleted.

In the end, it all worked out, the old service was finally disconnected (though that then resulted in a couple days of downtime, which is exactly what I was trying to avoid), and the new service was connected (though they forced me to buy a new modem, saying my old modem Motorola SB6120 was no longer supported, even though it is DOCSIS 3.0 and was working just fine a few days prior to that!).

So overall, with the customer support calls and confusion, the few days of downtime, and the forced modem upgrade, an unpleasant experience. On the plus side, I saved a few bucks, and so it was worth the aggravation. At least that is what I tell myself. Smilie shake head

My internet was dead for 7 hours this morning. A bunch of major metro areas were dead as well, not only Denver. I asked for a statement credit, but of course they won't do it. They have no problem charging me for services I don't have or whatever else they can think of though. Comcast is a despicable company.

I had to sign up as a new customer to get 25Mbps/$29.99 per month. No minimum term and the rate guaranteed for 12 months. I am in Chicago area.
I am in the near western suburbs of Chicago, and have been on a similar Comcast internet offer (25mbps/$30 per month), but my year just ended. Now the cost has increased to $66 a month. I see for new customers in my area there are these offers:

$20 for 3mbps "Economy Plus" (internet only)
$40 for 25mbps "Internet Plus" (includes some TV channels)
$50 for 75mbps "Internet Plus w Blast" (also includes some TV channels)

I already own my modem and router, and don't want TV or a Comcast DVR. But the 25/75mbps "internet only" cost is oddly higher than with the TV channel packages mentioned above.

Based on reading this thread, my three options seem:
1) Call Comcast and try to get a reduction in my $66 rate.
2) If Comcast will not reduce my rate, cancel my service, use my neighbor's wifi for a week or so, and then re-sign up using my wife as the "new Comcast customer".
3) Change to AT&T U-Verse service which I had in the past (but which has gotten pricey even for new customers).

Anyone around Chicago area have luck with option 1 above, or tried option 2?

And for anyone that currently has one of the internet/TV packages, will I be stuck having to use a Comcast DVR or some such device?

My price just jumped up to $67 for 25mbps service internet only. I may have to jump ship to att if I can't get it to around 40/45.

Update: Called retentions and got 75mbps service for $45/month for 12 months. Apparently, my service was already 75mbps. New customers can get it for $35/month, but I didn't want to go through the hassle of signing up with another person. Bottom line, call in if your price jumped. They still have promos for existing customers.
How to get to the retention department?

I was paying $39.99 for blast for the past year. In September my promotional rate was over so I called in and they said my rate was going to be $66 per month afterwards, which I am fine with. However, last week when I got my bill, Comcast added an extra $12 on top of the $66 per month because per my conversation with them, that's for the blast service I have. The blast service was also part of the previous promotion and for me to keep it I have to pay the extra $12. Nobody ever told me that when I called in September.
I am calling this week to cancel and sign up again with my family member's name.

Interesting experience here... Maybe this is useful for someone else:

I cancelled my AT&T service (excellent performance) after not being able to get a good retention rate anymore. Last week, I looked around the internet and found the cheapest deal being 25 mbps for $30 per month. I live in an apartment complex and there is a flyer to call this guy for deals. I did, and he offered me the exact same deal ($30). I held off figuring I can use that $100 coupon from that coupon site mentioned a few post above mine.

However, this week, after receiving my modem (refurb from ebay) the deal on the website is gone and replaced by a $40 /month combo deal with HBO. I called the flyer number again and got a different department. Apparently, there is some reorganization going on, and right off the bat, they offered me the 25 mbps service for $20/month. No contract or activation fee.

I urge you to call your local comcast agent/office for deals. You may need to google for the local phone number.
