UPDATE 2/25/2012 - Got another flier(cost me $15-and i only mentioned to few people so far(read update 2/21 below) for the same offer with a new Expiration date(3/18/2012), whats better is this offer has a different phone number - so try the new number if got shot down on the number from 1st flier. Both fliers are current as of today and attached on the bottom.

UPDATE 2/21/2012 - Reading through the replies - It seems that this thread has helped a lot of SD'ers to receive this(or a similarly slick) offer by either just mentioning the existence of the flier or more commonly faxing/emailing the copy of it to a Comcast rep that asks for it to verify that such a slick offer actually exists. That fact as well as the fact that my neighbors seemingly keep receiving the new versions of this flier on the regular basis(although undetermined interval) gave me an idea. I can try to offer a reward to my entire neighborhood (during a next city hall meet, email list that i can get from local DJ, or just stapling a reward note on a several streets/stores close to my house) in the sum of $15 for each new flier they bring to me - only for the offer i don't already have a flier for (usually means a new/later expiration date and some new/different internal Comcast numbers/codes on it- rest of this offer seems to stay the same(well graphics change as well sometimes)) and only an original flier in the original envelope (to eliminate Photoshoping bounty huntersSmilie. This way i can keep posting new/not yet expired (faxing/emailing expired fliers to Comcast reps will give them a good reason to deny it on the grounds of "that offer is no more") fliers here for my fellow SD'ers. Also if you get a similar flier/offer yourself (or any of your neighbors/friends/relatives do) - post it in this thread and PM me so i can put it into the first/this post(sorry not offering reward for that - but helping fellow SD'ers should be enough of a reward). What do you guys think of this plan? If i get enough reps indicating you think its a good idea - i will offer that reward to keep fliers coming!

UPDATE 2 - Ran some bandwidth tests on this plan - results below

My buddy somehow got the flier for that elusive internet offer that everyone was talking about but i was unable to find anywhere else. Finally got the flier from him and scanned it(sorry about the quality i tried to make it better but my scanner is pretty old and about 5 mins past its expiration date). So far him, his GF, her brother+ his GF and my buds GF's brother's GF's sister(lol-i think i got that right) have successfully signed up by calling the number on the flier(apparently if you just call comcast - they dont know anything about this deal at all). All are in Mass except for the last one- she lives in NH. Out of all only my bud had it installed already-rest are waiting for scheduled appointments(tech to come to house)-but i dont think there will be any problem at this point.

Deal is:
$19.99 a month for 12 months(1 year) and $34.99 for months 13-24(2nd year). Only 1 year agreement(contract) is required so you can cancel right after your bill goes from $20 to $35 in month 13. Best part is - no additional service needs to be purchased(so dont need to sign up for TV or Phone). It is for new customers only(which i think means you didn't have any comcast service for at least last 3 month-not sure on this one though).

Bandwidth Tests on this plan(all ran on 2/15/2012):
Gateway = modem + router in one - (yes i know just modem is less headache but i got real good deal on it and honestly so far it worked perfect as u can see below(same results 24/7 not just offpeak/night).

I don't even need to tell them what I want. This number is specially for the $19.99/month deal. They will ask if you are looking for the deal. The first word you will say is "Yes."

They will force you to have a installation appointment even you don't want to/need to. And have you wait a few days and charge you $25 for it. I think I have a way to avoid the stupid installation fee and start using the internet service instantly. I think this works only if you have Comcast internet service before. And of course you will need to have your own modem.
Before doing so you have to find your comcast account ID. Try to use your info that you used to open your account, and register an online account on comcast.com. Then login to that online account. You will see your account number on the first page. Copy it down.
If you are a new customer, be sure to ask the rep [the one you're signing up with] for your account number

1. Connect your modem directly to your computer.
2. Go to any website.(I went to google.com)
3. Comcast activation page show up, enter your account number and SSN or something like that.
4. Follow the steps...
5. BAM! Service activated. You have the Internet now!
6. Call 1 800 391 3000 then press "3" and follow the steps to cancel your appointment you perviously made. (I got refuse to cancel the appointment by calling the normal 1 800 COMCAST number.

If Comcast does not offer comparable Services and you activate Comcast residential Cable, Comcast High-Speed Internet or Comcast Digital Voice service within 30 days of your Service disconnection, the amount of the early termination fee will be credited upon proof of installation. To receive the credit, you must contact Comcast by calling, 1-800-989-4651 within forty-five (45) days of Service disconnection.

4) Services under the Offer are for one outlet (except for Comcast Digital Voice.) Comcast's applicable charges for installation, equipment, and other services not specifically included in the Offer as described above (including without limitation, pay per view, and other non-recurring charges) are additional. The provisions of this Agreement supplement the general terms and conditions of the Comcast agreement for residential services for Cable Service, High- Speed Internet and Digital Voice (as amended in accordance with their terms).

COMCAST does HARD CREDIT PULL/INQUIRY on all customers who subscribe to TV and Internet customer. It is same as the HARD PULL done by Credit card companies.
-Can anyone confirm the Hard Inquiry? I can't believe they would be that stupid. I am buying a new home and can't afford a hard hit before the mortgage closes.
- They gave me the option of providing a $50 refundable security deposit if I wanted to opt out of a credit lookup. Seems like a good alternative for us worried about our credit score (app-o-rama, future mortgages, loans, etc)

THey even bothered to ask me why I kept calling back so may times -- I said it was because the rate got better every time and they went very quiet. Big Grin

After you sign up, they will give you an account number. I asked for all of this e mailed so if there are questions in further months. We'll see what is e mailed.

Even with the instal (fee), this will still be ok if they don't try and jack around the monthly fee. The other offer (s) are for 6 months then they really increase the monthly. Modems are available to purchase (or lease). I look t it this way. If there is a problem with the modem they fix it.

See if you can get around the modem bit. I guarantee that it won't break.

I look at it this way:

$7/mo x 12mo = $84 yearly rental fee
$84 + $33 one time install = $117 to use theirs.

I bought a SB6141 for $65 on eBay (from modems modems), and can switch between any cable provider if you play the game right.

It pays off when you avoid contracts, always getting new customer deals, even though you (or somebody you live with) were one last year. These guys are so desperate for business and the competition means that we're the winners.

I can't get Comcast here though, wish I could. In addition to their iCrap/Droid TV app, they also have one for the xbox 360, so that's one less HD box to worry about.

I am moving to an apartment, and apparently the old renter had comcast service based on comcast's website. So, if I buy my own modem (SB6141) and router then I can avoid the installation and monthly rental fee? Is it as simple as just plug the cables in? also, the modem doesnt come with a splitter and coaxial cable, so does that mean I have to buy that cable as well? Sorry for all the noobs question >.<

I hope this helps someone else out.

I am currently paying $80~ for basic cable and performance internet. Was paying $45 after taxes up till November. I called several times for a better deal but it never happened something about getting off promotion for 3 month before another promotion can be applied.

I received the $14.99 flyer in the mail for lowest tier internet. My plan was to cancel service and reconnect with my wife's name. I called up to cancel and told them that I no longer wanted service. They offered me current service for $49.99 for 6 months. I let them know that I really don't care for TV that I was just interested in the internet. First they offered me $39.99 for performance. When I told them I was not interested than they offered me $29.99. (Both were for 6 months). That was as low as they would go. So I cancelled the service.

Called next day (*** don't call from your current plan's phone they know who you are ***) and told them I was interested in setting up service. They tried to sell me every service that they have (cable, internet, phone, home alarm, etc). I let them know that I had a flyer that was offering me $14.99 for 12 months of internet. At first the person said that they didn't offer any discounts for more than 6 months. I very politely let her know that I had a flyer that said otherwise. I was than place on hold for 5 mins (yes 5 mins). The person came back stating that offer was for the lowest tier internet. I asked if it was for 12 months. They said yes. They wanted to up sell me now was my turn to let them. I asked how much for next tier (performance). They told me $39.99. So I asked if there wasn't a $29.99 plan. At first they said no but they kept looking and within 30 seconds or so said yes. I reconfirmed with her that offer was for performance internet for $29.99 for 12 months. They stated after the 12 months that it would be $39.99 for another 12 months than after that it would be $45.99. Slickdeal here I come. They told me would need a technician to connect my internet a $50+ charge. Taking the advice others here have stated I scheduled it one week after my old service would be cancelled. I also asked for new account number and email confirmation.

So I called back the following day and told them that I had requested to cancelled my service but that I wanted to know what the prorated balance was. Remember never leave any lose ends, I had returned my cable box a few weeks earlier and would have all balances paid before my last day of service (with old account). By chance they also let me know that my service would continue for a week after I left but that I wouldn't be charged.

I will call the day after my old service ends and setup my modem. After that I will cancel that technician.

I would like to thank all thoses who have contributed to this thread.

Good luck to those thinking they got a deal for 12 months no contract through these 3rd party dealers selling the service. If you read through this thread you'll see many of us were screwed and were charged full price starting month 7.

I noted your comment above. After signing up, i received a e mail confirmation that didn't specify the term length. So i contacted customer service (through e chat) and provided my installation order number and told them i needed the term length verified in writing, or the installation wasn't going to happen. They confirmed 29.99 for 12 months. I screen capped the entire conversation.

The mistake the others had made, was not getting the terms specified in writing, up front. There is no guarantee that they will in fact honor the contract. However, when you get it in writing, you can make a much stronger case if they attempt any bull$hit.

If you buy your own modem, you can avoid the monthly rental fee. They don't lease routers anyway, as far as I know. You might be able to waive the installation fee if your connection to the internet prior to when you get service shows their online activation page, which looks like this: http://www.comcast.com/activate

If you don't see any page, then you'll have to have a guy come out to switch on your service. If you do see the page, then you can have them waive the install fee, and have them send you the self-install kit. That should be like a $10 to $15 charge for the kit, and it should have the coaxial cable and splitter you need: http://customer.comcast.com/help-...stall-kit/

Anyway, called in today! The previous owner still hasn't disconnected his service so I will able to waive the installation fee. What retarded was that the first guy I called cannot disconnect the service for me before starting a new one so he transferred it to a very nice lady. She disconnected and started a new service for me within 5 min and gave me a bump to 30mbps for free!! All for 19.99/month! bounce

When I ordered the Performance Internet service a couple of weeks ago with a flyer I received, they signed me on a contract of $19.99 per month for the first year and $34.99 for the second year. Should I ask them to just sign me with a contract for one year only (which is what the flyer says)? In other words, is $34.99 for the second year OK or too much?

The service was activated during the past weekend. The download and upload speeds were about 26.5 and 4.5 Mbps respectively from a online test (also verified by the agent on phone who activated my service). How do these numbers compare to other people with the same service?

It' my case it's not a promotion. They just increased the speed of the package I was signed up for. There's no note of it on my bill and when I initially got the email I called and was told that my speed was increased, there's no fee, it's permanent, and all I had to do was reset my modem for the change to activate. I thought it was a gimmick but a speed test showed the increased speeds.

And you were right. I see a $64.95 from my billing account today. Called in and talked for 3 hours and they said there is no such thing as $19.99; and the person opened my account is 3rd party vendor so there is nothing I can do. I am calling retention center and the guy said he can lower my bill to $39.99. What a load of BS! I am calling at the end of this month to discontinue my service.
