Newegg RMA Return Shipping – $10?

psygn 458 50 September 10, 2011 at 05:18 PM More Newegg Deals
I bought a mouse for $19 from Newegg. The left tilt on it is too tight and is difficult to activate (right one works fine) so I issued an RMA exchange. When I went to print the UPS label they ask that I pay $10 shipping? A bit ridiculous for a little mouse I think.

Has anyone talked to Live Chat or customer service from Newegg and gotten them to pay for shipping, perhaps even lessen the charge? Or am I just spoiled by some of the other retailers that pay for return shipping on a defective product?

Does Newegg pay the return shipping cost for defective merchandise?
No, Newegg does not pay the return shipping cost for defective merchandise. We are not responsible for product defects, because we do not manufacture the products we carry. However, if you pay to send the item back to Newegg, we will replace the item and ship the replacement to you at no charge. Newegg will employ every resource it has to ensure that your item is replaced promptly, without hassle.

You may need to talk to live chat about the issue. When my power supply went up in smoke after turning it on the first time, they e-mailed a shipping label after speaking to them. Hope that helps!

Just do a live chat or call them. That's how I've always had to do it to get around the return shipping fee.

You paid for a product in new, working condition but got something in broken conditon, so Newegg didn't fulfill its part of the contract. Tell them they haven't delivered the ordered product yet and so can't charge you for it.

To play it safe, issue a written "billing error" complaint with your credit card issuer, and mail it to the special address for billing problems. Merely phoning the issuer, filling out their online form, or mailing a letter to any other address may not protect all your rights under the federal Fair Credit Billing Act. Refer to the problem as "billing error" and say you do not "accept" the product because it doesn't meet advertised claims and that you've tried to work in "good faith" with the merchant.

Have you provided product feedback at the Newegg site? Sometimes they pay for return shipping for customers who give highly negative reviews.

You can do a lot better than $10 for return shipping by using the world's most efficient and lowest cost delivery service, the United States Postal Service. The next-cheapest service is probably FedEx Ground.

BTW almost everybody's online chat tends to suck and usually results in the worst service.

they are doing this to prevent so many people from doing return that arent defective and to try to force people to buy their 3-day shipping a free return program.

like people said above just mail and.or do the live chat and tell them that you received a defective product and want to exchange it for another one that isnt defective and would like a free shipping label.

the restocking fee is to make people do research on an item before they buy and then really want to buy it. it prevents people from 'borrowing' and then returning an item cause they didnt research the item in the first place.

I haven't done any buying from Newegg in a while. I remember just calling them every time I had an RMA issue, they emailed me a packing slip every time. I think I ended up stopping my orders around the time that 1/3 of every component I ordered came to be dead, or my "New" items kept showing up obviously opened, broken and had identifying stickers removed.

I have gotten them to waive the ups charge on a RMA on a hard drive that arrived DOA. This was over 2 years ago though. I think it was via twitter.

Newegg is pretty reasonable about waiving the shipping fee if it's something related to their problem. Once I bought a GPU and the unshrouded heatsink made it take up two expansion slots even though it wasn't advertised as a dual slot card....this was before I realized that the fat heatsinks do that sometime, though Newegg as kind enough to offer me return shipping on the RMA.

Amazon has a pretty long list of pick and choose options where you can specify whether it's your fault or not...the shipping fee should get waived if it's not your fault. In the end, Newegg just makes you live chat to get the fee waived but the end result should be similar.

GO DUKE!

Pro tip: when you buy a Steam game and don't plan on playing it right away, store it in your inventory instead to keep your options open because it's worthless once it's tied to your account

What brand of mouse? Why not go to the mouse mfr rather than to Newegg? If it's MS or Logitech, they're generally pretty generous on defect returns.

I've never had to pay return shipping with newegg. You just live chat them and say that the item was defective or whatever and they'll give you a shipping label. I once returned a pair of headphones because the package was opened before and was simply glued back together, so the item was not brand new.
