Is there a way to trace where an Email originated?
Is there a way to trace an email sent using gmail to be tracked back to where it originated from. I read somewhere that the full email header may contain information that might be able to use to track back the origination of an email, is that correct? How can I view full heard of a gmail email? Is there a way to find out from which IP address the email came from?

In gmail, if you click on the arrow on the "reply" button, and then click view original, it gives you a ton of information. I'm sure the IP or other relevant info are included in there.
EDIT: This is on the top right of the message you are viewing. It's a green arrow for me on a gray button. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Check out my Youtube [youtube.com] ~~~~~~~~~~~

Yup, click that little down arrow and choose "show original" to get the complete header info.
This can SOMETIMES allow you to trace it back to an ISP, but it depends on what kind of security devices were in between the sender and receiver, and also keep in mind that header info can be spoofed rather easily. There's a handy little tool here that will do the actual analysis for you: http://www.mxtoolbox.com/EmailHeaders.aspx |

Thank you both. I will investigate when I get home tonight. |
