What brand of paint do you prefer? The home depot guy was trying to push Behr ultra on me at $32 per gallon.. seems high. Been told i need to prime first then paint.

Been to lowes, home depot, walmart and ace.. everyone has diff brands and pricing.. figure i ask the slickdealers what to use.

I'm looking for basic white or bright white and need to cover a butter yellow disgusting color now, best as i can describe it. Would like something that cleans up easy and mildew/mold resistant if possible.

Suggestions???

Believe me, the Behr with primer is the bomb! I recommend it to clients and I use it for faux finishes and I haven't found anything better. It's easy to apply and has beautiful, true color. If you aren't sure, get a 2 oz sample (less than $3) and try it.

We just painted the entire interior of our new house...went with Behr. The Behr Premium Plus was the highest rated paint IIRC by Consumer Reports a couple of months ago. But yeah, it runs $30+ per gallon.

Most stores sell an additive for mildew resistance - that you put into the paint - normally this is done when painting bathrooms - but you can use it for wherever you are painting if need be. It easily mixes in with the paint. You want a latex paint that cleans up easily. If you are looking for something that is washable, you want some type of semi-gloss, not a matte finish, at least go with an egg shell finish.

I just had painting done at my home - and I had Sherwin Williams paint used. I've used Behr myself before, though I'm unable to paint myself anymore; it was recommended to me to go with Sherwin Williams Cashmere, which I did so. I'm happy with the results of how this turned out. The primer was tinted to the color of the wall color as well. FYI - it's more expensive than Behr Ultra.

Paint is one of the few things that you get what you pay for. If you are pressed for $$ go with the mid-range paints or wait for a sale. NEVER go for the economy/cheap stuff unless you're renting the place to college kids and plan on painting the area again shortly. With the cheaper stuff you'll also have to use multiple coats or a primer, meaning more work for you.

As for mildew resistant there is additives to put in the pant, and paint with some gloss helps defend against moisture.

The BEST priced paint is something in the mis-tinted pile. Just make sure there is enough to cover the area you are painting or you will have to color match a fresh gallon and it might not come out perfect.

Last time we were in Texas, we drove by our old house and the exterior paint job looked just as good as the day it was done, it stood up really well to that searing Texas sun.

Edit: Forgot to say, Sherwin Williams has really good sales too. Last sale here the paint was 30% off paints and stains.

Oh and when I signed up on the Sherwin Williams website a while back, they sent me a thank you coupon for $10 off a purchase of $50 or more.

The Behr is good chit. Get a paint stick (roller on a long tube that sucks up into the long tube). They are about $20-25 and will greatly speed painting large areas. Get someone to paint the trim and follow with the paint stick and the room will be painted in no time...

I painted both interior and exterior with Behr paint.

It doesn't smell like the paint I remember my old landlord used to paint his house.

The price is high, the key is to go to USPS, get a movers pack and get a 10% Lowe's coupon to use on your purchase. Also best part is to also do this while they're offering a rebate of $5 per gallon or $20 per 5 gallon. Anddd to top that off, buy it with Discover card during home renovation time for cashback.

Anywho, I've used Behr Ultra Premium for exterior and yea it cost me A LOT of money since it's paint & primer. But the results are great.

That sale was for preferred customers only - meaning you had to have a high volume account to get that 30% off - I know I have an account there - and my discount was not that high when I purchased sample paint. Though my painter whom was a preferred account actually got the 30% off - and I saw the receipts and knew the actual cost of the Cashmere paint prior to the sale pricing.

I agree about the Paint Stick - it works wonders on painting a room in no time - as long as you have the move-ability within the room to work the stick at the angles you need to - and to remember to thoroughly clean it out after the fact. #1 Rule - never ever lend this out to anyone else - especially family members - they will never clean it out like you do. #2 Rule - you will end up buying a 2nd one to replace the one you lent out to learn #1 Rule
