My dad's Acer Aspire 7740-6656 made some popping noises over the course of the last 24 hours and now when you try to power it on, it logs into windows (sometimes) and the furthest it gets is the startup of apps before the video display scrambles and powers off by itself. Sometimes I power it up and it just turns off by it self and cycles like that a few time before going dead again.
It's either the hard drive of the unit or the video card that's defective or damaged now.
I'm out of the warranty period for Acer and it's been only 2 years since I've had this $600laptop.
I heard Fry's has a repair place, but I don't know how expensive it is for them to do repairs instead of going to Acer and shipping the laptop back for repairs.
Also, I don't know if it's worthwhile to shop for a new laptop, it would be a lot of money down the drain , so I'm trying to get suggestions on places to go to get fix up services that are the lowest in price as possible for my budget, which is under $150.
