I know I'm late to chime in, but I was out of the country for a few months and wasn't aware that I would lose those deals. I did receive the email about the transition to OO.com a couple of months ago, and I tried logging in shortly after receipt of that email, and I was able to. Today, I needed one of my reservations there, so I tried logging in but no go. Then I found this thread. I still had unused "anytime deals" on my account. *Sigh* So annoyed. Wish there was something we could do to get our money back.

There are several issues here:
1) can we somehow redeem the points earned on borders rewards perks (BRP)? This seems like a longshot now. OO refers people to Borders. Borders (from what I've heard) mostly plays ignorant. 2) Can we get a refund of the $30 paid for "black star" status on BRP? This seems like a strong credit card dispute, if they didn't offer the year's worth of black star status. But I haven't tried yet. 3) What about points earned on OO.com after the transition? How can OO justify keeping all of those points? |

I don't think the people with points have any way to get justice, and black star refund is also a little iffy. Those of us with unclaimed anytime OO's clearly have a valid argument here since we paid for a voucher Groupon-style. I explained to Chase which was the credit card I used (I found that comparing to Groupon was the best way to explain). They were going to refund the charges to at least get my money paid back, but then when they saw all the other Next Jump refunds, I only got a fraction of what was paid since I didn't have any proof or claim numbers or anything. If only I had a screen shot or something before they yanked the website. Borders CS eventually claimed that the high level people were working with NJ to see how they could handle us and that they were going to email us when they had a solution, but of course that email never came, and now the Borders number just refers to a number for Barnes & Noble.

I tried again with a customer service request on oo.com. For the unused anytime OO credits, they were willing to credit WOW points to an oo.com account, but only for the amount actually paid, not the full promotional amount. I was asked to provide either the reservation numbers sent via email (which I never received in Feb/March) or a screenshot of your credit card statement and first 6 of credit card number. This is better than nothing and I guess the minimum to be considered almost fair, but I am going to just take it and be satisfied since I do think the whole thing was mostly the fault of Borders' and the buyers' lawyers.

Update: It took a little over half year. I finally won my dispute with nextjump. I disputed with chase credit card for my anytime OO. Chase charge me back after Nextjump responded that they already refund me. Guess what nextjump did? They provided chase a list of my OO and anytime OO refund. (Remember nextjump said they don't have any of your info from border? That is BS.) I immediately check my spreadsheet and provided chase with all my OO and AOO transactions. I spoke with Chase a few time on the phone. It seem they can't do much because my transactions are from last early last year (1st Qtr 2011). I contacted my state AG next with everything that I have. Waited for another month or so, I finally got an letter from nextjump's attorney to my state AG. He said that I already did a charge back with my CC company. They don't want to double pay me. After a couple day, I received an letter from chase that they credited me back all the money nextjump took.
In summary, you better have good documentation with your OO because next jump will try trick your credit card company by using refund for your OO and said they refunded you. The amount I disputed is my AOO plus the cash value of my points before Border went down. |
