Is this real life?

This seems like a good deal... almost too good. Something is not right.

It says $120 after rebate for me?

yeah $120 after rebate on product page, is there a coupon somewhere? also, the reviews are terrible. I'll have to past on this one.

Edit: Yes, now it shows $100 after rebate. But the reviews still concern me.

Vertex Plus uses an improved version of the Indilinx Barefoot controller that was all the rage a year or two ago, but it's still a Barefoot at its core; it's by no means a latest-gen drive, and it writes order of magnitude more data than a Vertex 2/3 or Agility 2/3 to store the same amount of actual information (called write amplification). Expect the actual flash cells to wear out much, much sooner than in a SandForce drive. Performance is also lagging, since it's- again- a three year old processor inside.

Thanks for the info. I got caught up in the price per GB. I'll wait a little longer. Still waiting to get my first SSD.

It's still a good deal for 120GB and it will perform well in real world use. People get hung up on benchmarks but there is not a very noticeable difference in using windows with the various SSDs. Also most people will have upgraded long before the time the cells wear out.

Does the NEWCUSTOMER10 promo still work? Anyone know?

Exactly this. We've been building machines with SSDs since the very first OCZ SATA drives. And working with one of the oldest Vertex drives (that has been RMAed 3 times ) feels no different than current gen Intel drives or (my personal favorites) Crucial C300 and M4. The benchmarks would have you believe otherwise, given the magnitude of the performance gap especially with linear transfers. Alas, browsing, opening apps, multitasking - feels the same.

Exactly.

Lots of complaints about these drives over at the OCZ forums. Lots of file corruptions from what I can see. I would hold this one out at this point. Just a FYI and good luck.

Look on newegg's feedback tab... doesn't look very good. It's about 50/50, so I guess you get what you pay for.
