Official 2011-12 NHL Thread - Congratulations to the Los Angeles Kings!

Hockey is back! After a summer of tragedy, it's time to drop the puck!

Who's the Cup favorite? Who made the best off season moves? When will Crosby return? When will Doughty sign?

And to start off the season, Mike Modano officially retired yesterday.

Huge fan of Modano's. It was fun watching him play the game.

They spent a ton this summer. Hopefully for their sake it reaps some rewards.

Washington made a ton of changes. Only question is whether or not it will get them to the next level? There's a lot of buzz around here about the Caps being SC contenders. Then again, we hear that every year.

Now, can Boston repeat? I think they have a shot at it. They didn't lose many players in the off season and a few of their bigger players were injured during the finals. Boston could be a threat again this season.

Not only did they spend a ton on players, but also on arena changes. The naming rights of our arena got sold as well. It is now the First Niagara Center as opposed to HSBC Arena. First Niagara just bought all of the HSBC branches in the area and HSBC is leaving Buffalo. HSBC has a huge corporate office in downtown Buffalo, I'm not sure if that has skipped town also.

With the new owner, I think there has been really positive changes. I hope the team competes well this season.

I think it's based a lot on potential so I hope he lives up to it. It can either be a genius signing or a huge flop. laugh out loud

I used to work for HSBC in Buffalo, and almost the entire time I was there they kept having to diffuse rumors that HSBC was going to leave Buffalo, and they kept insisting they were there for the long haul, ect. Interesting to see how that all turned out.

As far as hockey, when you have a winter sport that starts training camp games when it's still technically summer, then your season is too damn long. I can't even really get into hockey until late November anyways.
