I don't think it's to be mean or exclusive of anyone either. Anything hot does spread like wildfire, so it is to all of our advantages to keep it as quiet as long as possible. But you also want to make people within the SD thread aware, so you run a fine line. I am still of the opinion that sooner or later you need to learn the ropes for Wags, if you can't read between the lines then maybe you just aren't ready for it totally anyway.

When I first came on SD, I didn't understand why people who were long-time SD'rs would get mad at people who asked questions. Personally, I'm the type to research things myself before asking questions, but that's my personality. I know most people aren't like me, so I couldn't understand why newbies were getting "yelled" at for asking a question.

But now, after really only a short time on SD, I can see why the questions get annoying. I'm a pretty patient person and I enjoy answering questions, but even I start thinking, "Sheesh. Haven't these people heard of the word "search?" Particularly when it's something that has JUST been answered a page or two back.

Like you said, Tipper, I would feel embarrassed to be asking something that was just addressed - over & over.

I feel like it's taken me awhile to kind of feel my way around here, and understand the way things are done. I don't know if that makes sense. But basically I was intimidated to ask anything or contribute too much. And then I got it. What is annoying and what is a reasonable question. And what is helpful to contribute.

I really have learned a lot by joining SD. I've been couponing since I was a kid/teen so over 20 years. But being on SD has ratcheted up things for me and changed the way I view things. I'm able to see deals in a different way now.

I get more irritated by the typos than I do the repeat questions.

I don't mind the newbie questions like "Where can I find that coupon?" but I will admit the single "HOT" deal threads posted on the HOT Deals board & moved here by the mods are just annoying.

They usually are deals that had already been mentioned in the weekly or monthly threads & dissected completely. Or they are just mildly WARM deals that only merited a post or two on the weekly thread.

Discounted Coke, hmm ok --- when you PAY me to take the Coke & there is an in package coupon booklet, then we can talk about hot deal.

Yep I always try and search first. And if I am still confused I will go ask in a chat thread.

Before SD I didn't understand the concept of rolling my existing RRs or ECBs-a totally went off for me! Before that I would spend my RRs or ECBs on random stuff. It definitely takes things to a new level for me. I didn't know anything about Catalinas at grocery stores before this site! Understanding how it works makes me feel empowered and I love spending less than $5 for 6 bags of groceries For me it is saving the most that I can. Now if I just could get DH stop grocery shopping except for meat.....

Yep, I know what you mean about the rolling. I sort of rolled somewhat unconsciously and and did MM's unconsciously as well. But SD has made me more conscious of it - doing it actively. And now I try to use MM's towards things I need and try to get overage at stores that allow it. I never thought of doing that before.

With the way prices are rising, my new "extreme" level of couponing or SDing is pretty much necessary JUST to keep our expenses down to what they were 2 years ago. I actually need to do an analysis soon to see if that has actually happened. Even with SDing I'm not sure I'm keeping our grocery bills down to where they were.

OMG, yes. Even with my deals and MM here and there, my grocery budget is still the same as two years ago. I've just come to accept that's the way things are but it's very upsetting. It used to be that it was cheaper to just go to one store with a list for our weekly meals but now I will buy my tomato sauce when it's on special at Wags while doing my deals. Then, I'll buy the milk while at CVS picking up my freebies. I'll head over to WM and use some "o" for chicken/meat and finally go to Target for whatever grocery freebie they have that week. Thankfully, I have them all very close to my house but no longer can I just go "grocery shopping" at one store. I'd easily spend +$100 per visit if I did this. We've learned to just make meals according to what we've accumulated in our freezer/pantry. Last week, we had meatloaf, mashed potatoes and veggie blend. I had literally bought each and every time on a "deal".
