Recertified: dv6-6135DX A8-3500M HD6750G - $550 Newegg + FS

I always liked newegg, but lately i've heard nightmares about their refurbs...

Good price for an A8 with a blu-ray... but I wish it wasn't refurb.

no, sorry. I didn't mean like articles or consumer reports or something, just recent feedback on SD. It seems like lately people have been complaining that the Newegg refurbs are hit or miss. Sometimes perfect, sometimes horrible condition.

Newegg wanted to charge me a 15% restocking fee 2 days after I received a dead WD Caviar Green 2TB drive. I emailed them and they never even responded. So I went with WD's RMA process, and they sent me a replacement very quickly and just required my CC info in case I never sent the old one back.

I was always a Newegg fan, but I'm starting to question them.

Yeah, their restocking fees are BS, especially on items that are DOA/defective.

Last time I had a return on a graphics card, they gave me a really hard time.

Are you guys serious about this? I have returned DOA to newegg before and have never paid anything in addition. I always request a pre-paid return label from them. I even ask for a refund and it was 100% refund if it's not customer fault. Unless there was missing manual, damage box, or effect the resell condition made by the customer end. But their bussiness model may have changed but I doubt it has.

I'm as serious as a heart attack.

I got an AGP graphics card for an old system, installed it, and it had lines and bars all across the screen (clearly a defective part). I called up Newegg and explained the situation. They charged me a 15% restocking fee on it (even after speaking with a supervisor) and I included everything in the original box. The box wasn't even damaged or anything, I opened it very carefully.

Since then, I don't really mess with Newegg returns. I either RMA to the manufacturer or eat it as a total loss (depending on the cost to ship for repair).

How many times have you returned to newegg? My experience is that every time they do something like that - a price match or a return label etc... they say it's a one time exception. I'm not a habitual returner, but if something gets to me damaged or defective I expect a good one. Anyway, like others here I've found their CS to be increasingly strict lately. I recently had to replace my BR drive and I shopped at amazon for peace of mind. And that's on something new so it's saying a lot. If I have to I'll shop newegg if the price is super slick. If it's something I can get from somewhere else at a similar price, I usually go that route now.


And I've bought TONS from newegg in the past, but basically if you have to return anything for any reason valid or not you can figure on paying return shipping. They're not what they used to be.

If they ship you a faulty item, it's their responsibility to ship the item back. They have never decline it... but in the event if they did, I would hold onto the item until I get my label and call the credit card company complain for a refund. I always stay strict to the rule.

I got in on the ASUS K53TA deal, so not looking, but this would be tempting if I was looking now, and really wanting a nice budget gaming laptop. This is only $25 more than the best deal of all time which was NEW (with a coupon error) with an A8 Bluray, and 6750 graphics. So, compared to the best deal of all time below--it's not bad. (but that was $525 new)

If this wasn't refurbished recertified I'd say it was a perfect deal.So for those who get a good one, with no problems, then this is an excellent deal. You might want to get an extended warranty on this in case if problems arise.

shipping is around $15 but atleast no tax for most people....

I got in on the ASUS deal also. Am I a lunatic to consider trading my computer for this one?

I've been tempted by all the HP deals with this configuration, but I don't think it's worth going thru the trouble of trading (selling your laptop away) in order to get this one...unless the extra features are actually going to be used. I don't even own a BluRay player or have a Bluray disc library yet, so that's not a need for me. I heard the 6750 graphics is almost equivalent to the 6650 graphics except a little faster since it's ddr5 vs ddr3 on our 6650. The extra harddrive space is not a big deal. But I definitely like the integrated 6620 vs our 6520--another reason for the temptation.

Also you have to ask yourself if it's worth the chance that recertified/refurb is actually too risky..
For someone who has nothing and looking for his first laptop, I think this deal is worth a look.
All the deals I've seen on this configuration so far: $650 by Best Buy in August-Sept; $525 by HP site coupon error in Sept; and this refurb deal at $565 (Oct).
