OP is back! See WIKI for relevant information.

Short: NEW Activations only.
Buy sim card + activation kit/code (required).
Activate online at t-mobile.com, choose $30 plan. Done.

Any unlocked GSM phone will work. Maybe others, YMMV. NO SPRINT/VERIZON (unless they are unlocked and accept SIM cards... typically "world phones"). Also no Blackberry.

Why doesn't my phone (Optimus L9) ever use 3G? It's either 4G or 2G but I've never seen 3G. This is my first data plan so sorry if this is a dumb question.

They changed the icon to make 3.5G DC HSDPA+ display a 4G symbol instead of the standard H for HSDPA shown on stock Android. T-Mobile mind tricks. So high speed data = 4G icon. 2G = EDGE.
Very, VERY rarely I will actually see a "3G" pop up in my taskbar, but it usually quickly changes to H or E, as though I caught it doing something bad laugh out loud

Just a question will t-mobile freak out if you were to put SIM cards from this plan into an android tablet... or a windows PC?

T-Mobile do their best to block all such devices based upon their IMEIs. Thankfully, in the very likely case that T-Mobile detect your device as a non-phone, they won't send their magenta killbots after you. You'll simply be unable to make any use of plan features (calls, SMSes, data) while your SIM is in the unapproved device, and any attempted web use will likely be redirected to a page instructing you to purchase one of T-Mobile's data plans intended for Internet devices.

What is the point of porting your number to google voice vs directly to T-mobile?

It. can also be used as a forwarding number. And I especially like number blocking...

Dont be a freak ...

Use your phone to sent out Wifi signal so all your other device can use the data!

SEE? Think outside the box ok?

On Tmobile prepaid, we'll have the wife's phone and mine on this plan, can we use one account to manage the refills and view the account and stuff (like with VZW) or will we have our own individual My T-Mobile accounts?

Just bought the second L9 and porting the number now, excited to cut my ties with VZW very soon.

The account number is based off your phone number for pre-paid users on TMO. So you'd have two diff accounts. I know its a pain, but I kinda understand TMO's logic here.

Yesterday I was finally able to get the $30 plan with Unlim Web/Text and 100 minutes (after finishing the 2 year contract with TMobile) without actually going to Walmart for activation but had to spend roughly 4-5 hours getting it all worked out with TMobile reps/managers etc!

I got lucky and didn't have to pay for the $20 activation kit from Walmart because of inaccuracies in the statements from reps as well as the manager but unfortunately it will not be something everyone can replicate. And off course those lost 4-5 hours are worth much more than the $20 I saved, oh wellshake head

GSM phones use IMEI numbers, while ESN numbers are for CDMA phones. T-Mobile or any GSM network don't really have a way to track what phone you use or don't particularly care so go ahead and feel free to use the phone.
