With taxes and gas, Microcenter is probably more expensive... but you also miss out on the $40 motherboard bundle, which can net some good deals on a couple boards.

Microcenter killed my plans to buy an i5. lol I will wait until other retailers offer it at the same
price point as them.

true, and I like being as cost-effective as possible, but Microcenter just doesn't carry a good enough selection of boards. If you're buying an i5-2500k, you're probably looking to build a mid- to high-end system with overclocking. The motherboard might be the most important choice you can make, and Microcenter makes you choose between like 4 or 5 (often mediocre) boards so you can save $40.

Plus, when there is a slick deal (like when the Sandy chips were new and the i3 + MB was $99), it's almost impossible to find the motherboards in store.

Ultimately, you're right though. No competing with Microcenter cpu+mb combos price-wise.

I was feeling the same but really didn't want to wait for black friday only to find out it'd be about the same price as this deal.

Good point about the gas and tax, but the additional 40 off the motherboard would have been nice too. I guess it's almost a wash.

They carry the Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H and the Asus P8Z68-V (LE, LX, regular, Pro) for mainstream boards with applicable bundle, a bunch of cheap mobos I didn't pay attention to, and a bunch of Asus higher-end boards and the ASRock Z68 Extreme4 at my MC. That's a pretty decent selection, and the $40 off makes it at the very minimum competitive with online prices. I wish they carried more Gen3 boards but it's still early for that. They didn't have the ASRock Extreme3, which is too bad.

Considering they are B&M, this is pretty damn good in my opinion. Comparing online vs B&M is difficult, and MC is second only to Fry's in this regard.

NCIX usually pricematches these to $180. They usually even try to sweeten the deal in an attempt to pricematch Microcenter's CPU/Mobo combo discount if I'm not mistaken although I don't think they usually go as low as Microcenter.

I don't think the latter is true. I contacted them and they told me they don't price match combo deals

This seems like a good deal to me. $20-$30 cheaper than Newegg and Amazon. Will 2500k go on sale for BF?
