LOL Do you happen to have any still valid for this week (ie. today)? I'm taking my niece there tonight to buy a canvas she needs for a project due tomorrow, but these coupons the OP posted are not valid until tomorrow.

Agreed--i don't shop there without a coupon, but these 50%/online ones can be used once a day, every day. I don't get the Sunday wad of tree pulp so these are most appreciated!

Just a heads-up: Michael's requires a Photo ID for all returns now, which means you can't return anything for any reason without letting them scan your driver's license or passport. When you do return something, your name goes into a database where it is retained - name, address, age, d/l #, and possibly height, weight, eye color, and hair color. Anything that is on the mag-strip on your license can be captured and stored forever by them, for possible later abuse.

TRE [theretailequation.com] "The Retail Equation" is the entity that stores the data, with no assurance whatsoever that your information will be safe from hackers or abuse.

I, for one, refuse to shop at stores using these types of systems. You may feel differently.

At least, be aware of this when purchasing from them, and other stores (quite a few, I discovered) that use TRE to track your return behavior. Be sure whatever you do buy there, you aren't going to be returning it, unless you don't mind having them track you and possibly later refuse your returns.

I offer them my name. Hea, maybe even an address. I however, do not give them all of the info on my drivers license. Magnetic strip? Funny, I demagnetized that the moment I got it in the mail.

Thanks for the info though, its helpful. I actually remembering their site, I believe, saying no returns under any circumstances. Them not accepting it in store seemed legit.

I just ran across this at Gymboree the other day for the first time. I agree it's creepy.

Name and address are all they need, especially for a database. I think they take less to enroll a kid in school. I mean, there are tons of pawn-shop laws, as far as california goes, and it makes sense, because of stolen goods. Kinda works the same IMO with this, but I always assume "No receipt, no return." I would argue with a manager about taking private information for a return that I have a receipt for.

I wonder if I'll start seeing this show up on consumerist soon...
