How to clean erroneous entries from certain credit reports
As I am in the mortgagee business again I have recently gotten a few credit reports. As I found out last summer while financing, a certain lender *still* has entries on one of my reports (not all 3, just one of the agencies) which total about $10k, even though I paid them off years ago.
The interesting thing is that there are duplicate entires under different company names. I presume this is when NCT and AES "merged"(or at least some sort of organizational issue occurred) (these were student loans, so I am talking about National Collegiate Trust and American Education Services).
I originally tried to straighten this out with them but the "ghost" entries are from an entity that doesn't exist any longer, so when I get a "paid in full" letter from AES/NCT, it doesn't list the account/loan #'s that are erroneous on the credit report, only the "newer" loan #'s. Basically the "owner" of the entires doesn't appear to exist, or at least AES/NCT can't "see" these entries.
So - how the hell do I have these removed for good? How can I convince the reporting agency that these entries are "ghosts", if I can't get someone to send me a letter?
