Based on this study, about ONE in Four US Homes have mobile phone and no landline. Meaning the rest probably has traditional landline http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news...-study.htm I am surprise people would be surprise when someone mentioned they use land lines. Since 3 out of 4 households supposed to have landline.

actually there is 'overhead' with DSL, so you will never get 100% of the speed. when i had the old school DSL I was getting 70-80% of my max speed.
now with cable, you not only get your max speed, but also it can go well above. i seriously doubt that i will ever go back to DSL. the landline is on its way out too as its days are numbered. Basic landline with choice basic package (unlimited local, caller id, call waiting [no call waiting CID]) and no long distance is cheaper then just having unlimited local calling and CID. although with the $10+ in taxes its almost cheaper to get a $40/mo unlimited cell phone! just a few dollars more and the landline goes. |

this translates to... 3 in 4 households use "landlines" interesting... we are assuming a) 4 out of 4 households in USA have a telephone of one kind or the other b) VOIP is not invented yet and landlines means traditional landlines. very very interesting.. |

also, to whoever replied about the modem, I had a brand new modem+router which I got from AT&T, so that definitely was not the problem

Be forewarned, your service will vary by area.
I had to "upgrade" to keep my "business speed" rate, which was around 6 or 8 mb/s. Afterwards during any peak times my speed would consistently drop to 1 or 2 mb/s. I even had a period of several hours where my internal router was reading 56kps! Also, you can no longer use your own modem or router to connect. They force you to use their proprietary one, which is worthless. My service dies every couple of hours and I have to power on/off, which literally takes 5-7 mins (how does a modem take that long to power up?). No issues before using my own vastly superior router+modem. I would switch to anyone else if there was any competition at all in the area, besides cable |

I'm pretty happy with UVerse internet wise. I just upgraded from 12 to 18 and it's been nice. Also have TV and phone and I miss getting east coast channels here on the west coast, but the TV isn't bad. Paying $114 for the three. U300, 18mbs down internet, and unlimited voice.
