Deal Details

I had the 3mbps dsl from at&t and paying $15 a month promotional rate for 1 yr.
My 1 yr period just expired and I called.

I didn't even mention cancellation when the rep offered me 12mpbs u-verse for $25 a month with free self-install + Free after rebate wireless router and modem. The rebate is a $100 visa gift card.

I had called 1-800-288-2020.

12mbps u-verse - $25 a month
modem + wireless router - Free after $100 visa gift card
Self install kit - free, shipped via UPS
1 year contract (can be canceled within first 30 days)

NOTE: Others have mentioned that you'll get this price only if you have another AT&T service - e.g. land line, tv or cell phone. For everyone else, the cost will be $35 a month for 1 year.

I've had an old DSL line/modem with AT&T for at least five years. Recently I've been having problems with the modem.
Call AT&T today, and told them that Charter had sent me an for $30/month offer for 15mbps, and that I was going to call and Charter and place an order immediately (which was true). But I wanted to call them (AT&T) first, and if they could match that price.
AT&T offered me 12mbps for $30/month with free installation, and a 12 month contract. So I placed the order. Hopefully my billing will be correct.

I'll have to remember to call them again in twelve months!!! The way the guy explained it, my rate will go up after my 12 month contract expires
Similar situation here, but Charter is offering me $30/ month for 30Mbps for 1 year, will call AT&T to seek some deal, I'm on dry loop DSL though...

Be very wary of the $24.95/month 1 year promotional offer. I was offered this last november after calling in to cancel my AT&T DSL service. Except for the 1st month, where a manual credit was applied to the $48/month regular price to make the bill right, I have never been billed correctly. Most times, I was billed $48, one time was billed $34.95.

After calling in about this several times and getting an internal case opened, they now tell me that I'm not eligible for the $24.95/month promotion because I don't have other U-verse services like home phone or tv. (I do have AT&T wireless and basic landline service.) They are only putting me on a $34.95/month plan now, and I'm still under contract for 1 year. I'm about to file a FCC complaint due to this bait and switch technique. Would never have switched to U-verse to get on a $34.95/month promotion.

Update: I called in just to get confirmation that having AT&T wireless and/or landline service doesn't qualify for the $24.95/month promotion. I provided my AT&T cell/home phone numbers, and the CSR after looking into it for 20-30 minutes, said that having these doesn't qualify for the $24.95/month rate. Has anyone gotten the $24.95 rate by just having AT&T wireless and/or landline service? I'm not talking about getting some verbal agreement over the phone, but actually getting billed correctly as promised.
THIS IS 110% TRUE! My "offer" was supposed to start October 2011. My first bill, was in fact, for the correct $24.95. However, and I'm not exaggerating this, I've had to call them EVERY SINGLE MONTH since, to adjust the bill to the correct promotional amount. I seriously don't know how so much incompetence can be concentrated within just one company, but I've seen my bill amount be ANYTHING BUT the actual $24.95 (29 something, 34 something, 38 something, and $48).

The worst part is that every single time I have to talk to some new rep who doesn't know diddly-squat, and have to go over the ENTIRE story over and over. Every single time, after some initial resistance (and BS), they make an adjustment for that month and promise to fix it for the coming months...and that 'fix' has yet to stick.

The internet service itself, IMHO, is pretty damn good. Definitely more reliable and consistent than the Comcast connection I had before (South Bay, CA), but seriously, their customer service IS THE WORST (followed *VERY* closely by the HSBC credit card customer reps...but that's another story).

You have been warned!

I have DSL in my area and ATT will not upgrade to Uverse in my neighourhood. I live in the south metro Atlanta area. I dont live out in the country at all.

Why is that ATT is not getting Uverse here?
Because the Government is in the pockets of ATT/Verizon and does not force these monopolies to open up their infrastructure to competitors.

Thus ATT and Verzion have stopped upgrades to Uverse and Fios, letting the only competitor to internet services basically be the incumbent cable provider.

It's really a sad state of affairs for America.

Are you serious?

I thought this is USA and free market economy is good.

I thought ATT stop upgrading Uverse in my area bc they dont see it as profitable.

Well i was forced to move to Uverse since the letter i received in the mail said it would be happening in less than a month and a half.

I called up and talked to a woman who explained that ATT was phasing out DSL all together. I asked if the switch needed to happen and she said yes but, UVerse is better anyways since you get higher speeds on a much more consistent basis.

I asked her the prices. She said i could go with the plan i had now which was 3MB and get it for 14.95 or i could go with 2 other plans:

6MB - $19.95
12MB - $24.95

I went with the 12 since thats what i was paying already. I then asked her what about installation and how much would the modem cost and she explained that everything was free since they were forcing me to move.

Finally she said i would get the modem by tomorrow and that it was a self installation.
By next monday she said they will turn on my Uverse and when that happens i set the modem up and im ready to go.
For people that force to move to Uverse, what number you call to get a good deal?

btw prices that people are paying for internet and voice are outrageous in this thread. these people must not like saving money. I can understand if AT&T u-Verse is your only option like me ( we only have at&T u-verse in neighborhood ) and I pay $34 for 18 mb line (combined bill for wireless and internet) i don't have at&t u-verse tv and voice (Dish and VOnage cover that part) people who r paying $24 for 6 mb is insane!! and $48 for 12 mb u kidding me??
When selecting U-verse 18mbps, it require Installation Fee. But when select 12mbps, there is no installation fee. So what kind of thing they need to install for the Max Plus (18Mbps)? And what's the latest price people able to get for 18Mbps/12Mbps/6Mbps? The same price as from the website?

When I moved in 5-11 AT&T told me I had to have U-Verse. Even though I was a long time customer I went around and around with them. Personally I hate AT&T, but did not have much of a choice. My advise is do not deal with the devil, but it you have to here is what you need to do. Go to gethuman.com and find the best phone number to contact them. Then you need to speak to a retention specialist and make sure you always write down the date, their name and what they say when you threaten to change service to another company. It doen't hurt to have the prices from their competition. If they won't budge hang up and call the next day. You will get all different info when you keep trying. When you get the bill if it wasn't what the retention specialist stated then you can give them the above info. It is really discussing all you have to do to get what you want especially if you are a long time customer. Then you have to do it again when your promotion expires. Hope this helps and is not a repost. I have to deal with the devil again as my promotion expired. Best of luck. Big Grin

Anyone have to renew lately? What's the best deal out there? I was only offered $10 off the normal price for DSL 3mb pro which is $38 - $10 = $28. That's almost double the $15 I was paying.

I just called today, my 1 year contract with uverse ended last month...after an hour of haggling & being put on hold I was offered pro max speed on uverse with a free $150 upgrade to their faster gateway modem and a free install. I'll be paying about $38 a month before taxes for the 18 mbps speed. I had been paying them $30 a month before taxes for 12mbps speed. I'm sure I'll regret going with them again...they've totally screwed up the bill the last 3 contracts I've signed with them, it's always a nightmare & very time consuming calling them to correct their arithmetic Smilie I also have directtv & an at&t landline which helps with getting a discount

I'm guessing this is YMMV, but a few weeks ago, I was contacted by AT&T who said that "Important changes are coming to your AT&T Internet Service". Basically, I was on 6Mbps DSL and they said that I would be upgraded to 6Mbps U-verse. No charges, no equipment fee, no installation fee, same rate as what I was paying for the DSL, which was $24.95.

They sent the U-verse modem to me for self install, although an AT&T tech did show up on my install date to check a line outside of the house. The install itself was super easy. I was able to get everything up and running within 10 min. Before on DSL, I was averaging 2.4Mbps and now I'm getting 5.7Mbps.

It's not 12Mbps, but I'm not complaining since I didn't have to do anything to get the upgrade. Maybe at a later point, I'll ask about getting faster service, but for now 6Mbps is more than enough for what my house does.

Yes, this has been mentioned multiple times. Everyone forced to move to U-verse pretty much get the same deal. Everything related to the installation and equipment are free and you get the best promotional plan available.
And the super easy part is depend on your house. If you have only one phone line into your home for your phone and old DSL and you are keeping your traditional phone, then they will have to figure out another way to use another line to setup your U-verse connection. Seems like they can't share the line used by traditional phone with U-Verse DSL especially you order higher speed (12Mbps+) package(?). Pretty much if you don't have unused line (phone or cable/satellite , etc) that go into your home, they will need to set one up which may take some time.

Hmm I'm currently paying $43 for elite(6 mbps) with a $5 credit for 6 months, which brings it down to $38. Has anyone had success getting a better offer by threatening to cancel?
