Deal Details

Last Edited by kcaj32 October 11, 2011 at 01:45 PM
I had the 3mbps dsl from at&t and paying $15 a month promotional rate for 1 yr.
My 1 yr period just expired and I called.

I didn't even mention cancellation when the rep offered me 12mpbs u-verse for $25 a month with free self-install + Free after rebate wireless router and modem. The rebate is a $100 visa gift card.

I had called 1-800-288-2020.

12mbps u-verse - $25 a month
modem + wireless router - Free after $100 visa gift card
Self install kit - free, shipped via UPS
1 year contract (can be canceled within first 30 days)

NOTE: Others have mentioned that you'll get this price only if you have another AT&T service - e.g. land line, tv or cell phone. For everyone else, the cost will be $35 a month for 1 year.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Why this deal is YMMV:

AT&T seems to have different offers based on what channels you go through. Here's a sample of what's been seen

1. 29.99/month $100 for modem (Online Deal, straight from website)
2. 29.99/month $100 for modem - $100 Visa rebate (Online deal and rebate via online chat with CSR)
3. 24.95/month $100 for modem - $100 Visa rebate (Call AT&T, must have existing service)
4. 24.95/month all other fees waived (Call AT&T, must be FORCE MIGRATION from existing DSL and have received notice)

This also varies by region.

U-Verse is DSL. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AT%2...e#Internet

In some areas, at some speeds, it is ADSL2+. In other areas, at other speeds, it is VDSL. VDSL is usually FTTN (fiber to the node) but it is indeed DSL. The reliability of these competing technologies depends more on location than anything else. Likewise, the possibility of receiving 12Mbps ADSL vs VDSL, or not having either available, depends entirely on your location. FTTN does share more infrastructure than ADSL2+ which is fed from the Central Office. If you have 12Mbps VDSL and all of your neighbors torrent all day, you probably won't get 12Mbps. If you have VDSL to your neighborhood though, you don't want ADSL2+ as VDSL is higher voltage and drowns out neighboring ADSL pairs. Also the OP probably lives a block from the Central Office and they did 12Mbps ADSL2+ as VDSL is generally more expensive (to pay for the fiber ran to the node).

Note: If you are getting the free modem/router, it is likely that you will get the 2Wire 3600HGV, which runs on b and g only (no WiFi N) even if the rep told you you would be getting a WiFi N Cisco.
^You only get a 2Wire if you're getting VDSL. ADSL2+ users will get a motorola AND Linksys E1000 for wireless.

i have at&t 6Mb elite internet and an email was sent to me saying that all existing DSL speeds are now being changed to the U-verse name and that i should call them for a smooth transition.

I did, and was then offered this same deal (24.95$/mo for a year for 12Mb, free modem, free pro install. No visa rebate and carries a $4 "high speed equipment fee" charge, so it would be 28.95 a month with the fee included.) i declined bundling any other tv/phone service

apparently their terms and conditions do say it may charge a 4$ additional fee but i dont know if this applies to everyone or not. i live in L.A.

was this only DSL U-verse by itself? or was it package with tv and phone?
I got this pricing for u-verse internet only. I already have a land line with At&T and I'm paying $12 a month for that.

I had both DSL and U-verse internet of att and I can definitely tell this " att internet is higly unstable"

and the speed they is always is upto 25mbps and thats from 0-25 you can get anything from between that and no guarantee,

i have 6mbps the average i get is around 4mbps and I loose connection often and i have to restart my browser.

and thers a cap of 150gb for DSL and 250gb for U-verse but not quite sure I have the cap on my account, anyways I never used that much so I never cared.

I had asked 2 or 3 times if there's going to be any other charges. Rep said no additional charges. So I'm not paying the extra $4 a month. I'm in Sacramento, CA - Northern California.

Warning that I was 'eligible for U-verse' and ended up with a 30-day nightmare where I was getting under 1Mb/sec and it disconnected ever so randomly. After 5 techs, the last guy said that the wiring in my apt couldn't support U-verse speeds. I ended up canceling within 30 days. Some canceling hassles (like being billed for equipment that I had already returned, not a full refund on services originally charged, etc.)

I also had billing issues - I was being charged $34.99, which is their non-discounted rate for 6Mbps, I believe. I talked to a number of people and every time I complained I got the same "where did you see this?" bullshit response, and it never got fixed -- the $34.99 was after a $15 "discount" that was manually applied when I called, so they kept billing me $49.99. At the end I did end up paying $0 for the nightmare -- ATT CSRs are mostly nice, respective and understanding, but their workload is overbearing and you always need to wait 2-5 mins (if you're lucky) to talk to one since they have to fix every time their system screws up.

All in all a horrible experience, but I knew all of this before going in. It's why I never get ATT services, but now I've convinced the GF that ATT is hell woot

Nonetheless if you can get it, get the speeds, get the right billing and don't mind the cap (which is pretty large for residential use imo), then go for it.

Main reason why I want people to go to the store. We can actually see, tell, and show you that you can only get 768kbps and then no harm no foul.

You can get this without contract if you go through the web. I would have done it but my area has a non negotiable $100+ fee to run the fiber to my apt unit, even though its in my complex.

what if you have a package currently with 12mbps, TV and phone. Can you still get the $25 component for internet?
It'll depend if you are in contract for the internet or not.

It's better than 150GB cap on the DSL.

This offer is honored at any corporate store as well, as long as you're "green" (eligible for U-verse)

Are you sure? I'm in South orange county, CA and am very interested. I have cox, it's fine, stable, but expensive with the speed.

Where on the website can you check for u-verse eligibility?

Bastards. My 3mb year ran out as well. I called two days ago and all they would do for me is give me 1.5mb for year at $23. They didn't even mention this and I asked for all my other options.

What was the number you called? Currently I called them and they said that Uverse internet was not available in my area. I live in Los Angeles...not sure if LA mean Los Angeles or Lousiana.
