not a screen issue that is a motherboard too close to the screen (not enough padding or space between the board and the screen and its increased rippling due to pressure from the finger further decreasing the space between them causing the distortion)... this has been seen in some of the chipads...the ? is, is it an isolated issue on a defective assembly on that tablet assembly line... I doubt archos would put it out if it was a across the board defect... and endgadget had it for a few months and didnt mention it at all... so its highly likely that it was a defective unit or series of units off the assembly line...

either way waiting it out till BF or xmas time is a good idea... and I would generally never buy archos right out of the gates... its best to let the dust settle and see what bugs and or updates fix any of the issues...

good price except I prefer widescreen

good price for the product. But there are stuff I rather pay extra for. Moreover, it looks and feel like those cheap chinese knock-off tablet.

I agree... but I did have an 8" for a while... and for ebook and emag it was pretty nice... also wasnt to bad on web browsing... esp since this 8 inch has a decent resolution... but for movies I would prefer widescreen.... I think archos did the 8" bc they have a widescreen in the 10 and there are a ton of 7 inch tablets out there... so they wanted to be a little different maybe and hit a niche market???? and or maybe grab a few of the people are arent in the know and just think...oh 8 inches is better than 7 inches bc its bigger... (insert any kind of joke you want here...LOL)

I just wish a few of the big boyz would include a kick stand feature in their tablets... its such a convenient thing to have...

To this tablet defense, I think 4:3 screen is far more useable than widescreen. The only times I'd watch movies on a tablet is when I'm on airplane/train/submarine... which only happens a few times a year. 99% of the time, I would just browse internet on this thing, or maybe play a game or read a book. I've used Ipads many times, I love 4:3 format, would never trade it for widescreen, far less scrolling up and down, internet browsing simply rocks in fullscreen!

Great price, great tablet. But is bound to come down to this price level quite soon, as the android tablet scene will get more crowded.

One huge bonus of this tablet is that it is upgradeable with *cheap* 3G with a usb dongle. And you can use the dongle for internet access from your laptop too. But, the add on seems to be unavailable it the US for now. That's what ebay and international shipping is for.

Might as well wait til BF at this point if you can. Not that slick considering the Acer A500 or ASUS transformer could be had previously for only $30 more, shipped
