HP Touchpad Cyanogenmod install

Hi Everyone,

How did the alpha of cyanogenmod install go for you.

Mine is a failure. Need help in installing.

They said their was a major bug yesterday that stoped them from doing a video and it would be a few days before they fixed it... so I would pass on installing this.

Yeah, wait for at least the beta on this one. It should only be a few more weeks before official release.

I may install this tonight and just upgrade it as bugs get fixed. I am really wanting a good Twitter client and browser. The thing that I think will bother me the most about the alpha build as it stands is that the touchpad doesn't seem to sleep efficiently.

I installed and it is working great. I feel like a kid in the candy store with all the available apps. I've spent the last 4 hours installing all sorts of stuff, including a variety of browsers (firefox, Dolphin, Opera mini.)

That said, the install is not for the uninitiated and there are a few hoops to jump through to get the app store up and running.

I'm sure once this hits beta, the install will be a bit smoother.

Care to post about those hoops? I am not new to flashing roms on my phone but more info is always helpful in-case you run into problems.

First of all I used these [liliputing.com] instructions along with this [youtube.com] video.

The video clearly shows how to do the install but leaves out a few steps that are found in instructions.

My major issue out of the box was not including moboot_0.3.3.zip along with having issues in rebooting to usb drive (for some reason it would hard reboot and I think that had something to do with the OC kernal and reboot tweaks.)

The App store requires that you download Google Apps [22aaf3.com] - place it in a folder on the touchpad and then choose recovery mode on reboot which will give you the options to install from SD card (you navigate using the volume buttons and home key in the recovery mode.)

Honestly, I am horrible at offering directions, but if you are hung up at one particular spot I could probably walk you through it.

wow the install was super easy! Got everything up and running. Just make sure you allow unauthorized apps to be installed otherwise it thinks the appstore is not legit. So far everything is very snappy and very nice!!!

I honestly don't know if I'll ever boot into webos again.

I like cards and multitasking in webos, but tablets are about apps. It will take me weeks to explore all the android apps, vs. minutes in the hp app store.


p.s. Make sure to overclock! It runs under 1.2 out of the box. I'm running 1.7 with no issues.

After putting android through its paces for the last half an hour I agree 100%! I want to wipe webos right now! The speed is insane and itsnot even fully optimized yet. I realize betta/alpha isn't for everyonebut I strongly encourage you to test this out.

How do I overclock it from within android?

I'm guessing any OC app from the market will do. I snagged CPU Master and was able to alter the clock with a slide of the finger. Was able to confirm CPU speed via antutu benchmark.

As for optimizing, I'm just getting started and the machine runs great. Tomorrow will be a big day of app testing and settings tweaking.

I meant the cyanogen folks haven't fully optimized the kernel for touchpad support. I downloaded one free game just to test it and it seemed to have a somewhat low frame rate. I'm assuming this is due to that lack of final optimization.

Even with that in mind, the OS and other apps seems to run fine for me, much much faster than webOS. Hopefully some other users will chime in with their experiences!
