My cat has an eye problem - any vets here? No OT for now
Yesterday my 2 year old male cat's right eye looked red. The part that is red is the very edge of the eye close to where it meets his nose. Today I noticed that he's leaking some brownish yellow liquid. I plan to take him to the vet first thing in the morning, but does anyone know of any specific conditions that could cause this? He's an indoor cat so he couldn't have gotten anything from outside. I have two other cats and I am worried if it could possibly be spread to them.
Chances are he got something in the eye or got a scratch there from one of the other cats or he could be having an allergic reaction to something. It's best to see the vet, in case it is a foreign object or a scratch.
Not a vet but my cats are 17 years old and over the years have had all three happen. The female cat has allergies and at the moment, she has discharge from one eye, even though she's an indoor cat. Houses aren't air tight so pollen and other allergens get in from time to time.
"Happiness and depression are both feelings, just like joy and anger. It's not feelings that give us problems. It's what we do with them that makes the difference."
"When I was 5 years old, my mom always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down happy. They told me I didn't understand the assignment and I told them they didn't understand life."
If feline ocular pathologies are similar to human pathologies, it sounds like it's an ocular bacterial conjunctivitis. The brownish-yellow discharge with red, injected eyes are a usual sign for our eyes. But again, I don't know it applies for feline ocular pathologies.
Allergies would usually affect both eyes since it's more of a systemic reaction. Also, with allergic conjunctivitis, you don't get the brownish-yellow discharge. You get watery eyes, itchiness (which a cat can't tell you, of course), redness, and some mucous strands.
Thanks for the replies. I did some searching online and I think it is feline conjunctivitis. I don't think it could be a scratch because after looking closer at his eyes, the whole white part is red all the way around. I just hope it isn't anything my other cats can catch. The vet opens in an hour and I will report when I get back. My cats are my babies and it makes me very sad when they get sick
Our mother cat always gets eye discharge we use moist wipes to clean it up maybe they just have a blocked duct.

It was conjunctivitis. They gave me some antibiotic ointment to put in his eyes 3 times a day and I have to bring him back Tuesday or Wednesday so they can make sure he is getting better. It could be contagious so I will have to keep close watch of my other two cats' eyes.
