I've been lurking watching, waiting for it to come back. Always listen to Rocky. He knows his stuff. Big Grin

I'm not really sure what causes it. Probably something similar to what my Nexus does (wouldn't turn on when plugged into charger, gave me the red LED of death. Luckily it came on and started charging after holding down the power button for a bit) I had mine sent into HP (when it was still in warranty) when it happened, and it hasn't done it since. But it seems a lot of patience and button mashing will eventually bring it back to life. Big Grin

Who's still loving their TouchPad? Still loving mine.
We have three and between me and the kids, they are used everyday. They have proven to be much sturdier than I expected. My kids are now 2, 4, and 7 and have been using them for over a year and the Touchpads still look like new.
Starting to run into that "out of space" message when downloading their games though...guess we'll have to start uninstalling some of the lesser used games.
The crazy amount of free and cheap kids games has been terrific for us. Stopping nintendo ds game purchases has damn near paid for the Touchpads!

I have come to the conclusion HP management is so poor, there is no explanation to any of their actions. To introduce a new tablet that offers nothing new, more expensive than what is currently out is ridiculous. On top of that, its 7'' screen. Junk. Quite sad how bad HP has become. If they only stuck with the TP webOS and actually supported it, things might be different. As far as I can see, I dont see HP being around too much longer with mistake after mistake.

Their new tablet will sell. HP is a well known brand and if the average consumer walks into a big box store to pick up something they will see the HP brand and feel comforted by it. The 7" screen size is actually great. Great for reading and doing most things. 10" is better for webpages and PDF. Ya the new hp tablet doesnt have cutting edge specs but its good enough for most people to read and browse one, and game on some. It also is running stock android and has an SD slot. Technically the Nexus 7 still beats it in every way except the SD card which for some is huge. I see the HP 7" as kind of a Nook type competitor but with stock android.

Whee believe it or not, it just came back...Bigeye

It has been off the charger for a few days and for shits and giggles I put it on the touchstone charger. I forgot and just walked by and the USB/Battery charge symbol is on it now. Im shocked. EEK!
laugh out loudYou know what after trying every thing imaginableI became frustrated and left it alone for about 4 days. I then thought let me put it on the Touchstone again. I plugged the Touchstone up and set the TP on it and the white light that everybody was talking about started blinking. After about an hour it was fully charged. I was shocked, after dealing with this for a week and a half my baby finally woke up.

High Five Awesome to hear. I'm still shocked how it happened. So I'm guessing just leaving it alone for a few days and then trying to charge is the trick to the ones the button combos aren't working for.

Glad to hear you got it back up, believe me I know how frustrating it was. I was lost without mine, even though I had another....

TP noob here with some questions. I have a vanilla, un-modded TP that I pretty much just use for web browsing and reading. But I would love if I could watch videos stored on my home network. I have an HP Mediasmart Server, running Windows Home Server v1.x and lots of videos I wish I could watch on my TP. I consider myself above average in technical skills, so if it is possible, I am confident I can do what is necessary. Soooo . . .

Is this doable?
What file formats/resolution/bitrate will a modded TP play smoothly?

Major websites, such as CNN, have converted to HTML5. You should be able to play video from any browser without flash player plug-in. I have tested with Chrome, Dolphin, and stock browsers. No issue for playing.

You will need to install flash player for android if the website you are watching still using flash video.

Checkout this website to point you where to get the flash player for your android ICS.

unmodded.. you mean it's only running webOS? Reason I ask is this is the Android on TP thread.

I don't know about the windows side but I do know samba works on webOS (not sure how reliable or experimental it is) - I think you would have to go that route. Maybe someone on PreCentral has automated the whole process by now

Unmodded, as in if modding will allow me to do what I want to do, then I will mod it, otherwise I see no reason to bother.

In that case, you may do better in the actual HP Touchpad thread, as this one is about installing Android.

So I've finally solved a problem that has been plaguing my TouchPad from daily use (due to sheer annoyance), and it was something I overlooked.

Basically, my problem has been the "Apps will crash" after X amount of time/apps opened.
No new apps will open unless I go to the app switcher and start killing off apps. Sometimes, this also refuses to work, and requires a reboot before I can use any app at all.

Infuriating. So I did a whole ACMEUninstaller deal, etc. etc. hoping it would fix my problem, but it did not. It was so bad that when I got the "Unfortunately X app has closed" and pressed the "Report" button, I 'd get a "Market Feedback agent has stopped" (ie. I couldn't even report the app has crashed, because the crash reporter crashed. laugh out loud) Lots of googling and checking through error logs and I couldn't get figure out why this kept happening, even when I reflashed my ROM from scratch. Scratchchin

Finally fixed it after many months.

Basically I was flashing the "Increase storage size by 256/512/1024/2048MB" zips from this thread..
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/13277-cm7-fixes-for-sdcard-issues/
...and I would sometimes have errors when I would do so that it wouldn't pass. I ignored it, as eventually it would apply.

Because I didn't read the whole post and didn't flash this.
http://www.mediafire.com/?g52q4zr03c3z1gx
Second freaking paragraph
"The first fix should be applied by everyone. It fixes the fsck_msdos
program. This program is used to check your 'sdcard' for errors before using it. This program can also correct many of these errors"

...and sure enough after flashing that through recovery it solved most of my app crash problems. I actually flashed it twice because it flashed almost instantly that I didn't believe it went through.
However after opening a lot of apps, I'd still get a random force close. Fixed that by going to Settings-->Performance-->Memory Management and checking "Allow purging of assets".

Finally, my TouchPad is nice and fast like it should be and no more app crashes! No longer embarassed to share my TouchPad now either in case the browser crashes. I actually used it all day until the battery almost died (usually I got fed up with it after an hour or so).

TL;DR: If you've ever flashed those expansion zips to add more storage to your Android storage in the past and/or getting constant App crashes/FCs, read this post. There is a fix.
