Just to get things straight, so if you got in on the Beta with the LG Optimus, then you still have free service until 3/26 or so.

If you want to start today, you're basically getting the equivalent of Sprint SERO with the $19/mo + $249 Moto Defy?

Free service until 3/6 with the single band phone or if you choose the dual band phone for $150, free service until 6/14.

If you're not yet with Republic, I'd wait until the summer when they release new phones.

7 days left to get the single band Defy XT for free (Wave A). BTW, those phones aren't new, they're are B-stock.

Quote :
B-Stock indicates devices that can't be sold as new, but are backed by any warranty otherwise applicable to devices that we sell. B-Stock items aren't refurbished. Rather, the device may have been used for testing or tried by a customer and returned to us. Every B-Stock item is inspected here and found to be in fine cosmetic and operational condition, and could basically be described as “like new.”

Lame. The one I got I'm 99% sure was brand new. All the plastic was still on it.

I guess the early bird gets the worm. By waiting until the last minute, I was hoping they'd be all out of the single bands and would give out some dual-bands for free.

Last day to pick up single band Defy XT for free (Wave A). I ordered mine this morning and it already shipped. If any of you are on the fence between getting the single band for free or the dual band for $150, I recommend grabbing the free phone. Here's what Republic Wireless has to say on their blog:

"We'll be rolling out new smartphones, the first arriving in late summer, and some will have the latest version of Android and access to LTE. Our plan is to offer low, mid, and high end smartphones for a variety of users."

...they promised new "low, mid, and high end" smartphones like since June of last year. And all they had to show for it was the Defy, which they botched first with only a single band model, and running Gingerbread with no root access. (for comparison the Optimus S they launched came PRE-ROOTED, and I had a nice ICS build on it).

And despite the fact that the global/Chinese Defy XT gets ICS, Republic has stated that their version will stay on Gingerbread. Seriously, I got so fed up with them.

Have they fixed freaking MMS support yet? They were supposed to last May but kept pushing it back. Does Republic do MMS now?

Nope on the MMS.

Which provider did you choose to replace RW?

You're right. I was using Republic for a few months in conjunction with my T-Mobile service (Loved the concept of Republic back then, not so much anymore. Too many broken promises).

I remember the first day they launched their homepage mentioned how they were like a hybrid and how Verizon and at&t were greedy oil companies. Rofl2

It didn't even stay up all day and was changed to remove the at&t and Verizon wording, I'm guessing because someone in legal probably told them to.

But that's how I knew I would like them. But they failed on their promises. I wish them luck. Hopefully maybe with LTE they'll really start to take off.

EDIT: yup.

Got my Defy XT today. Sweet little phone - screen is much brighter than the other one. Now how do I turn my Optimus into a mini tablet for the kids?
