Thread Details

So I picked up a pair of PX21s for my PS3 so I can play and not wake the wife up. Hooked them up and the sound works great. The issue I have is the chat/mic. People can't hear me for crap. I go to the Accessory Settings and select the Turtle Beach and on mic level 5 if I speak loudly it's barely in the blue, level 3 and I don't get out of the yellow. I've tried it with the mic a couple inches away and literally right in front of my lips and while right in front of my lips are better it's still not loud enough for people to hear me. I have to cup the mic over my mouth and say like one word.

Am I missing something? The mic does work. If I YELL people can hear me. I then get my POS Plantronics BT headset turn it on and speaking loudly gets me in the red when I'm speaking.

Heeeeeeeeeeelp EEK!

I have the same headset but I have the digital processor with it but It should be the same. no one has told me I sound low. I will look at my settings when I get home and do that self mic test to see if I get the same results. How is yours hooked up to the ps3? I know I will have an extra box that connects to the optical cable for audio and then a usb cable to the ps3.

My USB is connected in the front of the PS3 and then I had to use the white/red audio to plug in to the back of my TV. That combines in to the small headphone jack plug which I connect in to. The TV sound is great, which I'm assuming is coming from the white/red audio input on the TV, it's just the chat that sucks.

correct me if I am wrong but arent the red/white audio cables supposed to be attached to the ps3 as well?

I am using the P11's so I don't know if the setup is different. But I recall having to change the audio settings to allow multiple device output or something to that effect.

Here's the user guide.

I have a PS3 with HDMI.I've basically got it setup exactly that way without Step 2. I'm guessing that cable is how you'd connect your PS3 to your TV if you didn't have HDMI. The old yellow, red, white cable. To me that cable looks like something you'd plug in so you can get sound from the TV, not input chat from your mic to the PS3. I don't actually know why you'd even have to plug that in and I couldn't find the cable in my house! In theory shouldn't it work just off the USB input?

I didn't do the "Configuring the PS3 Audio Settings" section on page 4 because I have no problem hearing game audio or other people talking, they just can't hear me much at all.

Those instructions appear to be the exact same as the ones for the P11's other than step two being optional. Without having access to the cable we can't test that. I would still adjust the audio settings per the setup guide and see if that helps at all.

I too thought it was kind of weird to have it connected to the ps3 through both usb and the composite cables

And apparently they only offer web based support. Seriously, no phone # to call on! There is supposedly Live Chat but I can't find the F'ing link anywhere to click on and their support site is abhorrently slow.

Is it really that friggin hard to put a link where it says Live Chat!

If you cannot find what you need, you may click on our Live Chat to get in touch with one of our Reps (Live Chat hours: Mon-Fri 9-5 EST) or click on the Contact Support tab to fill in our Technical Support Form and send an email to our Support Team. That's what I'd think! Tried other ports and new from Amazon.

Just went into the settings for the mic and my mic sounded fine. It was in yellow when talking normally and it was on level 5. Can you hear yourself talk when doing the mic test? Have you tried and see if there is anything blocking your mic like clear plastic? Companies like placing clear plastic film on shiny plastic when packaging it.

Just got home and no plastic around the mic. Plugged it in to my laptop to see if it's a problem with the headphones itself or what and the instruction manual specifically states to put it at about 25%. If I speak loudly with the input volume at 25% nothing registers. If I turn it all the way up I only get about 3-4 bars of green if I speak loudly. If ya ask me this thing is busted and it's brand new out of the box.

I got head phones so I could play at night and now wake the wife up. Kinda useless if I have to YELL for anyone to hear me... Not sure if I should wait to call Amazon and ask for a replacement after I can live chat with someone (if that's even possible) or just return it all together and get a different model. Probably not from TB as their customer support is friggin laaaaaaaaaaaaaame!

OMFG - Messed around with them a bit and realized that my incoming chat on the controller thing was set to looooooooooow. Apparently loooooooooooow = MUTE! Turned it up a bit, found some friends that actually play with mics and they said that they could hear me. They said I sounded a bit low which kind of sucks but better than nothing. Still can't whisper like i can on my Plantronics BT but good to know it atleast works. Why oh why can't they take the mic sensitivity up to a 10 instead of just a 5 Big Grin

Update: Friggin 7 of 8 people can't hear me for crap. These POS'es are going back to Amazon...

Ok, so I ended up getting in touch with support and they said that as I had to crank my input on my PC all the way up to 100% to really hear anything (their install manual says to put it to 25%) that it was a defective mic. Packed it up and shipped it back to Amazon and just received a new pair.

Same darn problem. This one seems a little better but not much. I set the sensitivity up to level 5 and it still barely is in the blue (yellow, blue red?) section.

I then turn on my old Plantronics BT headset, set it to sensitivity 3 and speak the same and I'm hitting the first red bar. What in the heck? I like having a headset I can hear the game on so I can play while the wife sleeps but if nobody can hear me I may as well just get a pair of headphones ya know!

That sucks. I don't know why people like TB stuff so much. The one pair that I temporarily owned were horrid.

I feel bad. I mean Amazon shipped me a replacement pair. I thought I should just return them but the TB tech said they weer just defective and would be fine for a new pair. I feel like an ahole sending them back yet again (and having them incur the shipping cost) but I don't wanna be out $60 on a pair of friggin headphones. Much rather try something else.

I've never returned anything to Amazon before this year and literally in the last 2 months this would be the 4th returned package!
