They had amazon GC's on "sale" a couple weeks ago. 4900 for $50 GC. Just checked today and it's back up to 5000 for $50. These are not horrible considering the $100 prepaid mastercard is 14000 which is a ripoff (but I've done it a couple times).
I pay for EVERYTHING I possibly can with my CC then pay it off every month. I get $600 worth of GC's year pretty easily. If I could figure out a way to pay my car payment and mortgage with it I would.
^^^That's how it's done,^^^
The best deal on Thank You rewards (for me at least - I guess it varies by card) is the $100 gift cards for 10,000 points. They've had them for places like Wal-Mart, Staples, and J&R Music in the past but those deals are few and far between. I usually go for the TJ Maxx/Marshall's cards which are almost always available and it's usually not too hard to find good prices on stuff I need there.
quick question: Can you use lowe's gift card (in this scenario, purchased from citi) to buy in-store giftcards for say, Amazon? (Lowes has giftcardmall section in the store, here). Just a thought to milk it better.
I've never seen Amazon GCs sold at Lowes. Unless you're referring to the Lowes grocery chain.
If you have a mortgage you can get straight cash at 100% value for your citi points. They send you a check to put towards your mortgage. Or if a family member has a mortgage you could probably get a check made out to their lender and trade it to them for cash.
You need to have a checking account with them or they do this with credit cards too?
I just discovered that almost all of the gift cards are priced lower if you have the Preferred card vs' the regular Citi card. Every card I looked at was a straight 1% return (10,000 pts. for $100 card) instead of the usual 11,000 - 12,000 pts. I just transferred points at no charge from the old account to the preferred account. Points show up immediately, so I've already made my purchases. I'll continue to accumulate points on the old card when the purchase returns a greater percentage (such as restaurants which give me 3% or so) and then transfer the points when I'm ready to use them. Great to know!
if the giftcard mall at lowes is anything like at safeway and the other places, that deal is not slick since you have to pay $3-8 (not sure exactly how much but around that price) to activate the giftcard.
I was able to get that amazon gc for 4,900 pts, that's with the citi pro and citi thankyou premier
Yes! This is a win! Normally the thank you network has been pretty bad with points I.E. 6k for $50GC. This is an extra 10% on what you would normally get. I personally recommend the Citi Premier Card Elite. I just cashed in on my vacation this year. I spent 900 bucks on 3 tickets from Orlando to Colombia. I get 1pt for every mile flown on each ticket. So This is what I got.
900 pts for purchase
3x 3400pts per ticket for miles flown.
For a grand total of 11,100 Thank you points. I'll use 2,400 of my spare points to redeem $150 in Lowe's Gift Cards! Winning!
