Yes, you need an app for everything, but good new is that there IS an app for everything & most are free. Take a look at these to get you started:

Flipboard (News)
The Weather Channel
Netflix (if you have a subscription)
Box.net (free 50GB online storage)
Xfinity (if you have Comcast TV)
Dropbox (to sync files between your PC & the ipad)
Splashtop or Teamviewer (to remote control your PC from the ipad)
500px (amazing photography)
Epicurious (if you like to cook)
Dragon Dictation (voice recognition if you want to talk rather than type)
Skype
neu.Notes (for note taking)
Snapspeed (awesome photo enhancer)

I *think* all of those are free. Play with it for a while & see what you think.

Thanks, I do have a lot of these (weather, epicurious,...) No comcast here and I hear the time warner one sucks.

I love the fast boot up but it seems i always grab the laptop first. Maybe I'll come around.

You grab the laptop first out of habit we all do that. I own more than 25 tablets and smart phones but still how more desktops workstations laptops an netbooks. the Laptop has more power and more RAM the desktop with Quad core and 8GB 16GB and 32GB of RAM along with Gig or 10 Gig for NIC side more will jump on that then a tablet any day. But the tablet is fun to use and will get better in time. Once the Quad core tablets come out at a good price then I bet you'll start grabbing the tablet more!

What annoys me is even if you managed to order one, like I did on the day of launch, you still have to wait three weeks for its arrival and seemingly another ten days for delivery.

I picked mine up off the shelf at walmart. They had many.

It grows on you. There are some things better left to a laptop but for general couch surfing, it's much nicer.
