Many radio owners would recommend that you leave your radio off for at least two weeks starting on December 1st to avoid the deactivation signal if you hope to use your radio for free for any length of time. Some say it would be better yet to wait a month. The Free Listen promotion seems to be offered about 4 times a year so if your radio is deactivated, you can just wait for the next promotion. I have several radios that I have purchased for free or almost free over the years so I could just swap out to another radio once one is deactivated. Then I could reactivate all of them a few months later during the next Free Listen promotion. I have not tried this yet as I no longer have access to a terrestrial signal at my work location and now use a Slacker radio at my desk.
SiriusXM often has a free radio promotion. Shipping was free for a limited period with the use of a now expired coupon code. Shipping on two radios, the limit of the promotion, was $12 to $15 during recent promotions. To avoid activation fee on the free radio, call before the 30 day free period expires to cancel the 3-month subscription. You will likely receive an offer of two free months of service. I accepted the offer after confirming that the activation fee would be waived. The customer service representative even offered to remove my credit card information so that I cannot be charged automatically for any future service.
